Having survived the 70's (fashion by BOZO the Clown) I'll tell you that, though the collar's what it is... no self respecting pimp would be caught in that jacket. Not LOOOOOONG enough. Maxi-leathers and wide brim fedoras are what the pimps wore.... That and fur coats and matching fur hats. No the jacket is fine.... I'd bite but they don't make it in my size and I've other things on my list. Sides its summer and I'm sweatin' too much to think about new leather.

Give me the '70's over anything 80's anytime...music, fashion, cars.....personally I wouldn't have thought 1970's when I first saw this jacket and I guess the pimps I saw in London back then didn't like leather (not on themselves anyhow!!)

I'm inclined to agree, and this may be age related - the 1980's were bloody awful. Never saw or met any pimps in either decade however.

A lot of designers in the Seventies took huge influence from menswear of the 30s and Forties, hence the return of the wide lapels, peaked lapels on SB jackets, wider trouser legs...



Funny thing is, I see a lot of Seventies suits - not the fashion-stuff, but the basic, workaday suits - with wide, peak lapels, wide legs and decently high waists, and see something passable for cheap, day to day wear that when properly accessorised can lean to an earlier look.

One of the great pop culture myths is that the Seventies was wholly without style. There was a lot of nasty stuff around, but it was by no means all bad (I certainly recall at least as much, perhaps more, sartorial and cultural ugliness in the Eighties). Writing off the entire decade as universally bad, style-wise, and then rejecting anything based on anything that inspired it, is intellectually lazy. Bit like the folks who blanket-regard all politicians / lawyers / journalists / estate agents / whatever as "corrupt" and so on. It's for the hard of thinking, and not rational minds. Which is, of course, completely different than folks happening not to like an individual piece like this. It's what's going on more generally, though, when you get that knee-jerk "Seventies BAD!" thing.

The first brand new revolver I ever purchased, at about 12 years of age, was a Colt Python in that beautiful nickel finish they offered back then. I mowed a lot of lawns to get that thing, and I still have it!

Cute design piece, the AMC Pacer. I had a Matchbox version back about 1976... came with a set as one of half a dozen cars on a transporter... I didn't realise what it really was, though, until much later (specifically 1992, and the release of Wayne's World). That curved back window much have been a dream for reversing.

Oddly, I'd remembered that jacket as being something akin to the Schott-type civilian run at that style of jacket (maybe I was subconsciously confusing it with the later film). Sharp looking here - if clearly in need of a bit of looking after!
