Aero zip sleeve Highwayman Black CXL FQHH, Shoulder Gussets

This is a "new to me" Highwayman obtained in a swap with Ivan. Jacket looks virtually brand new, I believe he wore it around 20 times. The HH is some of the nicest I've handled from Aero, thicker than other jackets I've owned, yet interestingly not as stiff. Red cotton drill lining, zip sleeves, old Highwayman label and shoulder gussets make it a fairly unique jacket. This is a size 40, so sized down one from my normal 42, and I'm very pleased with the fit. I think going down twice would be too small for me. I will get fit pics up later this weekend sometime.

Yes it does. Also came with the front waist snap set-up which I can have a tailor install if I decide, which would make it look VERY similar.

Although I'm more of a "cafe racer" type, I'm really warming up to the Highwayman Style (and may have to add one to my collection.) This one looks amazing. Traditional black FQHH is unbeatable. What did you have to swap to get it?

I was never a HWM fan and now I own two. I sent Ivan a new Vanson Model A with liner that he had been jonesing for, which allowed him to get it without any European markups or imports duties. Win/win. (and it's a gorgeous jacket, hopefully he'll get some photos up soon but I was really impressed with the Model A when I was packing it up for him, which I can't remember us ever talking about much on here.)

I'm just leery that a HWM may be too boxy for my body type. But I like the history, the utility, and the overall unpretentiousness (if there is such a word) of the design- the HWM uniquely straddles that edge of being both a classic workingman's jacket and a biker jacket. If I could just figure out how to get a good fit on one, then I'd definitely take a leap.
That's why I'd love to see some fit pics and hear your experience on finding the right one.

I agree with your description of the jacket, because I think when it fits right, it's also a shorter style, similar to how historic moto jackets were rarely as long as we wear them now. This is the shortest jacket I own, but it gives me a different look. I'll try to have pics up tomorrow afternoon.

Huge fan of the Premier HWM, the standard shape is just too boxy for my tastes. Look forward to seeing it. We're getting into heavier jacket weather now - the Dust Bowl's getting a lot of wear now.

I'd be very interested in that comparison. We know that Thrusdon Bros tell us to size down by 2 for the standard Highwayman. Wade says that the 38 has a pit to pit of 24 inches which is a generous 42. I find that interesting. I am your size and I have been too scared to buy one because I am either a 38, 40, or 42 depending on who you talk to. Too great a margin for error. I know with a 1930's half-belt I can fit into a 42 but I prefer a 44 as I'm not a fan of sung fitting jackets.

Yes, the red lining is an amazing thing. The rest of the jacket is certainly too, but that red lining makes it look awesome.

If you want a 42, go with a 38. I've found this to be accurate for the recent HWMs. I think some people might measure from the side panel lines rather than the actual pit-pit, coming up with a smaller measurement.

I was advised to go with a 38 highwayman, which in a steer fit jacket zipped up with a t shirt but was too tight (I usually wear a size 42 dress coat). I owned a 42 highwayman in Horsehide had a pit to pit of 25.5 which was too big. My current size 40 highwayman in tumbled horse has a p2p of 24.25 and fits perfect. I think you can much more easily get away with a smaller size in a more supple leather like goat or vincenza, not to mention those leathers are easier to tailor and you're more likely to get less variance in measurements than with a stiffer material. My 2 cents.

A jacket (or almost any article of clothing) that is slightly too big will still make you smile but one that is slightly too small will generally make you frown
