Man, I really dig those square pockets! It’s funny how our tastes evolve over time. I remember when I started reading the lounge back in 2015 there were a few things I absolutely couldn’t stand: mouton collars such as on the G-1, Vanson Choppers, and those goofy square pockets. Fast forward to now and I love all three!

Excellent info! Thank you. Whatever this hide is, it’s fantastic. I’ve never handled CXL steer, but if it’s anything like what this is, I’d be very tempted to try it out.

Speaking as one addict to another - regarding CX Steerhide - if you try it, you will like it. And no negative side effects with Steer. As with most of the Chromexcel hides, it will feel rather stiff and hard when you first put it on. Give it 15-20 minuites. It's amazing how it softens up and works with you. There you go - my enablement. :)

Really worth seeing if you can get samples and see the different options. Mind you, the best of all is a trip to the factory if it's at all feasible! I visited in 2014, wonderful folks, lovely welcome, spent a very pleasant two hours, was given the tour of the factory, talked details of my jacket, and owing to the timing (I had been on the waiting list for a bit and visited about a week before my jacket was due to be built) got to pick out with Murray the exact hides it was based on. Glorious.

Happens, doesn't it? For me it was Irvins, Grizzlies, and non- black/white evening-wear bow ties. Now I adore all of those. I'm even experimenting with bowler hats...

Slightly heavier than the CXL FQHH, but softer-feeling from the off. It's not for every jacket (Aero advise against it for the like of a Dustbowl back with pleats as it doesn't move so well with those), but something like a HWM variant with the one-piece main back panel it'd be great.

As someone's pointed out, this is our 'Montgomery', it's shown in Alaskan Steerhide which is unfortunately no longer available, as the tannery is now defunct. It was very similar to Vicenza however, I'm told!

This style is about be re-introduced, it seems that nobody had noticed it was left off our website in 2010, we’ve obviously got too many styles! All of those who were at Aero in the 80s and 90s remember the jacket with much affection, you’d be surprised how many of 'veterans' we’ve still got in the Aero family... And Julie can recall learning to make these as a teenager!

It’s going into a new range of 'Original Recreations', which will feature a small number, perhaps around a dozen, of stitch for stitch replicas of a handful of the very best of pre-1959 classic jackets.

The “new” version is going to be a wee bit longer than our original version thanks to some measurement provided by owners of 1950s originals

Thank you so much! You folks at Aero rock! Since I received my first Aero, I’ve been hooked. I’ll be looking forward to ordering one of these in the future. Meanwhile, I’ll be enjoying the several Aeros in the closet and the one on the way.

Looks like these were a shorter jacket like the Highwayman (my HWM is the perfect waist length jacket length, imo, stops just south of my belt). From what Holly says above, the new stitch-for-stitch version will be slightly longer, based on an original of this jacket, which will be nice as it'll be a wholly historically correct option for those who like their jacket just that fraction longer.
