Aero Sheene Fit

Hope everyone is safe & well. This is my first post here, although I have been benefiting from the Forum’s immense knowledge for a while now

Hoping to get forum member’s expert opinion on the fit of a jacket I have recently acquired. This is a Aero Sheen in brown CXL FQHH. Pics to follow, I am not too sure if the sleeves are a bit loose on me? Rest of the jacket fits really well, and I dig the colour of the leather, lining, & thread

any way the laggyness in the sleeves can be addressed? It is simply because the previous owner had larger built around the arms I believe

Welcome to the lounge! The body fit looks good to me even if the body could be one inch longer but this is a matter of taste. The sleeves are definitely too long. Depending on where you're from I would send the jacket to e.g. Dave Sheeley (Maverickson), Johnson Leathers San Francisco, Aero Leather Scotland, Thurston Bros. US for sleeve shortening.

Don’t want to be picky, but I’d guess that model is actually a ‘seven’, not a ‘sheene’. very similar jackets, but quite a different fit.
the ‘sheene’ is based on a cafe racer pattern, whilst the ‘seven’ uses a board racer as its base. The way that your zip finishes a couple of inches from the bottom is a giveaway.
Nice jacket, although the sleeves do look a tad long.

Thanks Robbie & Dan, your inputs are much appreciated. Dan, you are spot on, that’s the first thought I had when I saw the description of the jacket. But apparently the base of the jacket is CR, and the zipper has been shortened as a modification

regarding the sleeves, do you think they are long enough to warrant an alteration? I haven’t heard very nice stories about high end jacket alterations, and want to avoid getting into that. I also don’t want to let go of the jacket. Any way sleeves can be shrunk a bit? Maybe a dip in cold water? Or conditioning with obenauf’s ?

I am actually surprised by how the sleeve length has come out to be. I have a size 40 Aero CR with the same sleeve length(26) and it seems to fit very well. Don’t know how this 26inch sleeve is coming out to be looking longer

I think, it's a bit of mix and match. A Seven maybe, but with different back construction (no center seam & kidney panels). Also the sleeves are different to the Cafe racer -based Sheene.

The fit in general looks fine to me, but the sleeves are an odd inch too long as they don't come down nice and straight. Also the pitch seems to be a bit off, but it's hard to say exactly as the sleeves come down creased as they are. When you get the sleeves fixed, the jacket would serve you greatly for years.

With a decent pair of jeans, the jacket's length should be fine. The sleeve will crease up deponding on how well the jacket got broken in. I will shorten the sleeve after at least 3 months of regular wear.

Thanks Finn & KMM

actually the sleeves are very well broken in by the original owner, rather too well. They have become quite soft and pliable. I doubt the sleeves will break in any more. do you think the sleeves will conform to my arms eventually and then maybe look less ‘laggy’ vs now

the body of the jacket still needs to be broken in though, I am working on that

Looks fine to me. It's easy to overthink jackets and there's no perfect fit. You can always shorten or lengthen or narrow something but you can totally get away with that one. Unless it annoys you in which case start again...

Great fit apart from the sleeve length....as its CXL they might crease up enough? I'd try wetting them, putting some sort of pole through them and bunching them up as much as possible and leaving them till they dry, does that make sense?

In my experience this is a myth...
I have broken in around 20 leather jackets and not a single on has lost a measurable amount of sleeve length.

IMO that Sheen is a good 2" too long in the sleeves and probably a little bit too long in the back, but that's hard to tell with sweatpants on.

I find straight and wide sleeve may not crease. The narrow and twist sleeve has a higher chance to crease up. Seven's sleeve looks very narrow. I had a european fashion brand leather jacket with skin tight sleeve that crease a noticeable amount. And the reason the sleeve crease may be after breaking in the bicep part shape like a ball and lift the sleeve a bite.

I'm not saying it's not going to crease, just that it isn't going to shorten.
I have jackets with 27" sleeves that fit too long when the jacket was new, after years of wear the sleeves are still 27" and are still to long.
Yes they have creased more than my 26" sleeves, and they get these weird cupping folds at the wrist like the OP sleeves currently show, but they don't magically shorten, at least none of mine ever has.

If the sleeve got shorten, the inner sleeve is the part got shorten. Mine is thin lamb leather, it's very soft and wrinkle a lot. Probably it's a rare thing. Certainly heavy cxl should not be the case. You are right, I can't imagine my LW and Vanson got shorten. They didn't even crease that much. ;)

The length will stay almost the same, down to any change being negligible. If you like the jacket, keep it. The sleeves on my Aero Cafe Racer are probably a little bit long and the back is a little bit loose for most folks here, but what I wear changes the way it fits and hangs and I don't want to look like a leather-bound sausage (others wouldn't look like this, but I would). A smidgen long in the arms? Unless it's causing inordinate distress, wear a hoodie under it and don't worry. The body length is the length I'd prefer in that style.

Welcome to the lounge!

I would keep the jacket as it is. It´s a Rider´s jacket, after all, so the sleeves are meant to cover the wrists with the arms slightly raised.
That said: If you don´t feel comfortbale, it will not work for you. The sleeves are indeed long, but not comically so (at least not for the wast majority of people NOT arguing details as these...).

The sleevs will not shorten with wear to a degree that makes any meaningful difference; they will also not shrink in diamter, but again, for my eye, there is no visible undue baggyness.

To my eye, it is a great jacket. Albeit with a horrible, horrible Outfit...;)

Are the sleeves of equal length? What about your arms; is one longer than the other? The sleeve on the right arm hangs lower than the sleeve on the left.

What I would try before having it altered (which I wouldn't do) is to soak only the sleeves in warm water and put in the sun to dry. If warm water doesn't do enough, try hot water. Won't hurt the leather any. Might need to put a coat of Pecard on the sleeves afterwards if the hot water treatment makes the leather stiff. The sleeves don't look too baggy to me.

As the leather is CXL, don't know that it will shrink. I have had a vegetable tanned jacket shrink a bit and a Schott naked cowhide shrink a lot. I think it is worth a try.

Sleeves are not too baggy but too long. Will not shrink in my opinion but trying hot water will not hurt them. I had a CR with identical sleeve length relative to my arms and a 2" shortening did the trick. Fold them over by 2 inches and see how they look and feel. Shortening alteration will not be trivial due to the zipper. You are looking at $150-200 in my opinion.

Thank you everyone, feels really nice to hear from the experienced lot, on my first query on the forum. Here are some better quality pictures, in a better outfit :)
I myself am okay with the sleeve length(although would surely have preferred an inch & half less), and love the jacket as a whole, but although I have a few CXL jackets from Schott & Aero, they have all been acquired in the last 12 months, and I consider myself a newbie in terms of leather & fitting knowledge. But hearing your opinions and listening to my own, I don't think I will go for an alteration or anything of the sort. Will wear it as it is.

I do ride, a lot of that, but I have a separate Alpinestars leather jacket for that, with armor, so this one will not see much riding. I bought it purely for casual wear usage. Anyway, here are the pics

That, sir, is a very nice fit. The only exception is that he sleeves seem to be bunching up around the bicep area. Wondering if this is due to the fact that they are too long and falling low at your hands, backing all the way up in a way.
