For legal reasons - see above. The truth will out in its own good time, without doubt. I should expect an identity of the home owner will follow in the event of an arrest, although some details may still be restricted from reporting at that stage. The delay in arrest may also be because the investigation may be looking at casting a much wider net than only arrsting and bringing charges against a single person.

But I wasn't asking who lived at the house as that would clearly be sub judice. I was merely wondering if anyone who had been connected with the running of Aero Leathers lived in Hawick. As a statement of fact, and as I said in my post without any reference to this case. I would not have thought that would be a problem.

British newspapers do that all the time and don't have issues. As in: Mavis Bonkers was found dead in her home yesterday. No one has been arrested but police are believed to be looking for a local man in connection with the death. Her ex husband Bill Bonkers is said to live nearby.

We're all focusing on the jackets, but I'm curious about the gazillion jeans as well. What make, type and are they worth waiting for at a bargain price? Are they even definitely Aero's, seeing as Aero don't make jeans (I think).

My understanding is that the jeans are LVCs. I'm more of a Lee man, myself:D

Aero don't, but they do sell a lot of denim as a third party retailer (it's on a separate area of the website) - similar to the bots and knitwear they sell which is produced by someone else and retailed by them. We don't tend to hear so much about that side of their business on here, as we're all fixated on the leather jackets... ;)

Technically no, though in all the circumstances here, it is no wonder the press are being cautious. To label someone a "thief" ahead of an arrest could raise an issue of libel if no charges are ever brought; after an arrest (or, in the rarer case of common law intentional contempt, before) can raise problems of contempt of court, depending on how it is handled. In these circumstances, given the nature of the situation and the facts (Hawick is a pretty small place - it's not like saying they live in Glasgow or London), to name anyone connected to Aero who lived in Hawick would be tantamount to naming that person as the individual whose house has been raided.

British newspapers do that all the time and don't have issues. As in: Mavis Bonkers was found dead in her home yesterday. No one has been arrested but police are believed to be looking for a local man in connection with the death. Her ex husband Bill Bonkers is said to live nearby.

In that case Bill Bonkers would quite possibly (depending on further facts not given) have a case for libel, should a jury decide that the natural and ordinary meaning of the statement is that he is a suspect. That one wouldn't give contempt problems, but....

Better safe than sorry. Some of the press do sail close to the wind, though most of them are pretty wary of contempt these days following the (rightful) prosecution of the Mirror and the Sun over their appalling "journalism" in relation to the Christopher Jeffries arrest back at the beginning of 2012.

Overall, the safest thing will be for the press not to name anyone until an arrest has been made, and even then to proceed with caution.

(Scotland is its own jurisdiction, but the substantive principles of the law in this area are the same as in England and Wales).

I just figured you were trying to pull Butte into it (I think he's mostly American). lol
Mostly. Think I'll google Scottish places of business that sell leather jackets and high end denim. Bet I can put 2+2 together and come close. Or, just wait a few days... Mostly American. You FQHS'er. lol

+1...
With all the drama recently, Aero seems to have the makings of a great Reality Tv show. But that aside, I also wish them the best. Running a successful "family" business is tough enough without the extra troubles.

.

I'd like to see him try to sue me. Apart from living on state benefits and not having the means, Bill Bonkers is a drunk, a liar, and a thief. The dogs in the street know he did Mavis in.

lol Unfortunately "common knowledge" doesn't stand up in court. He could still pull a Liberace. ;)

Nothing available on any of the other press wires other than Sloanies article

Are you suggesting that I've manufactured this, PL? Even though the police confirmed the raid and Holly the return of the property? As with any ongoing story of interest, I'll follow up when there's more to write up, hopefully soon.

Crafted it maybe ... but manufactured it ..... never, that would be foolish in extreme :)

I'm just pointing out that the only report I've seen is yours ( and you're not exactly impartial !!!) I have little or no details to go on ... so it's difficult to conclude anything on the basis of what was written ( it's my job to deal in facts so I tend to think like that I'm afraid). I look forward to reading when there's more to write.

I do find it rather bizzare that any company would want to air this sort of stuff on an internet forum though ???

Aero are the victims from what I read. No negative press for them. Wouldn't want to be the folks that got caught with the goods though. They may not be posting here.
