A couple of decades ago in the US some people started a good news paper which would only print good news. It lasted two editions and folded, and it didn't even announce its own demise before it went because that would have been bad news. That's true BTW.

I know what you mean, and yes I'm sure that's exactly what happened.

As I understand it people like most to read about murder and sex crimes. Throw in a celebrity or two and that's the jackpot. I'm just saying, I don't. And that not knowing anything about current affairs doesn't seem to have had any adverse effects on my lifestyle. A recent example that made me smile was discovering, by accident, months after the event that Obama had won another election.

WTF? You were there when the stuff got nicked?? How can ANYONE claim to have "seen behind the scenes"????

MM if you put that somebody will come along and remove the F. It happened to me earlier in this thread, and it mattered not that mine represented a 'frig' - no one even checked!

PL ... Professional journalists do NOT make up, construct or craft news stories. PERIOD. The code of ethics in our profession is something we take VERY seriously.

Comedy gold. Frightening if you actually believe it !

I said that I saw into the staging of the article, not the alleged crime. (while the term "staging" may suggest "fiction", I'm of the opinion that even the making of facts requires a staging.)

And all I meant was that, while an average The Scotman reader would not make any connection between the author of the article and the alleged victim, FLers like myself are able to make a few more connections from a behind the news view. That's it. Again, I'm not suggesting that there is anything non-factual in the article, only that the connections between author and victim are bound to raise the suspicions of many on here who were already suspicious to begin with.

Sorry, man. Not getting it.

There was NO "staging" of the article. NO ONE on here (at least publicly), knew anything about the Scottish Police raid until the article was mentioned. And it was not Sloan who raised it.

Are you suggesting that the Police and Sloan somehow set this up?

Leather jacket loving journalist stumbles across alleged criminal activity involving local leather factory he's dealt with personally...

Doesn't seem a stretch to me that he'd want to report that, especially when the police are giving quotes. The sum involved and the fact that it's gear from a local factory make this a newsworthy item in south east Scotland, which is part of the Scotsman's local market.
