Does anyone have a Aero Long Halfbelt or Herc with something other than the American Cuff? Would button cuffs look out of place on the design or get in the way somehow? Any pics

My Aero LHB has the traditional American cuff, but if given the choice I'd take button cuffs for a better look IMO.

Neither of those. My Bootlegger has button cuffs, which I special-ordered (as it's based on the 50s Halfbelt pattern with an added lancer front, the standard model has the 'engineer cuffs'). That was under Lauder management, but I shouldn't imagine it would be a problem to spec that now, as it's not a compromise to the pattern. The Halfbelt Deluxe, to my eye (I don't know measurements, mind) looks very similar to the Long Halfbelt, with certain additions - such as the mouton collar. The HB DLX has button cuffs (see photos here: http://www.aeroleatherclothing.com/product-detail.php?id=16) and it looks pretty cool, so.

IMO, a button cuff can look great on these sort of middly-length jackets as long as they're a reasonably trim fit (I don't mean Luftwaffe fit, but more like the fit of a 30s or 50s Halfbelt than, say, a Highwayman). A looser jacket looks better with the engineer cuffs, imo.

Best bet is to drop ero a line and seek their advice. I'd be surprised if they weren't open to this, plus they'll be able to advise you as to what works and doesn't work for different patterns if there's a technical reason not to do it.

Button cuff on the Bootlegger:

Something to consider if you do go for these: I have jackets with the cuffs leather-lined and cloth lined. The leather, I woul have assumed, will stay cleaner longer and wear better, though on the jackets that aren't leather-lined in the cuffs, I've not had a problem with dirt, I've found. They are very stiff to open and close buttons on the ones where I have leather both sides, though TBH I don't find any need to fasten or unfasten them to get my paws through, so I just leave them. I'm sure done regularly they'll break in... or you could opt for a stud instead.

I would go out tonight

Although not exactly answering your question, this might be relevant. I love the look of button cuffs, so had them added to a custom barnstormer that I had made. It was not entirely successful as the profile of the sleeve took on a distinct carrot shape as the sleeve had to slim considerably from the shoulder to accommodate the slimmer cuff. I also had a LHB with storm cuffs and really liked the way the cuffs creased up.
If I were buying a zip up jacket now, and wanted button cuffs (which I do), I would go with one of the slimmer jackets. Maybe add pockets to a Plainsman?

I'm with IWGOT on this one: the American cuff really suits the LHB visually, but also there is a practical side: It's a longer jacket and ideal for cold weather, so with the American cuffs you get knits inset into them to help keep the wind out.

Craig make a good point about storm cuffs that would be great in Scotland (and New Jersey) but not for me in Texas. My concern with the LHB would be bunching up at the lap when sitting with the LHB zipped, one of the reasons I like my Teamster with buttons. Craig, your thoughts?

I've never had any real problem with that. Obviously, when you first get it, the leather is stiff and requires a bit of 'shaping', but I tend to get around it initially by unzipping the jacket but after it softened up there's no ride-up at all. My LHB's completely broken btw, it just flops around now.

Doesn't the Northeaster jacket have Button Cuffs / with storm cuff? And I think it's a cloth lined leather cuff so it should wrinkle up more.

I like the American cuff style but for a person with smaller hands, the large wide scale of that cuff can sometimes look odd imo. That's the only reason Im looking at alternative options. If it was a LHB sleeve slimmed down a tad with smaller american cuff, it would work.

I think the American cuff would look better than the button cuff and, as discussed, it's how that pattern came and you can have the internal knit cuff. I think the fitted and slightly fussy look of a button cuff would look strange on the less trim and longer LHB.

Carrie just posted a Teamster with button cuffs on the Vicenza thread. Looks good to me.

Very different style to a LGB but I hear you and I'm not convinced. Also those photos are taken at odd angles so you can't see the full effect. I don't like what I see.

The button cuff doesn't look strange on my Teamster, which is a similar pattern to the LHB except the latter is zipped rather than buttoned. Having said that, I would tend to go with an American cuff if I were to order a LHB since that's the way it was designed. However, IMO either would work fine. [huh]

Im with Seb on this. Teamster is a much different looking jacket and the button cuff suits it perfectly. It' has a lot more deco going on so the cuff blends in. HBD, again more going on deco wise so the button cuff looks good.

LHB is a more streamlined / basic style which is why Im not certain on button cuffs for it. If only the american cuff / sleeve could be made a bit less wide.

Here's a pic of mine taken, on the basis of the top I'm wearing, earlier this year:

You can see how the cuffs work in proportion to the rest of the jacket.

Are the LHB and the Hercules both based off the same pattern? Sloan, what size is that LHB of yours?

I worked with Thurston to do a longer LHB (the Plainsman was too slim for me). I opted for a strap and buckle cuff for something different. I happened to have a picture that Wade sent me when the jacket arrived.

The Herc and LHB are a similar jacket but with different details. The Herc's main feature is the leather cording that travels down the front panels, vertical breast pocket and the deco design pocket flaps. The LHB's a plainer jacket, with a horizontal breast pocket and cargo flaps that are more 'Western'.
My jacket is a straight ahead size 36.

Thanks, I was more asking if they are both based off the 50's or the 30's pattern. I'm guessing the 50's?
