Wow, this is unbelievable. Last night when I was browsing Aero website, in their Steerhide section, they rereferred to their Steerhide as "4oz Chrome Tanned Steerhide". But now as if by magic, it's all been changed to "Chromexcel Steerhide. I think this website change might have been triggered by this post. Perhaps, Aero is watching :)

I can see how this might be confusing. My blue label HWM was made during the old regime, and the mid-weight steerhide used might have been from a sample on hand. It is my understanding that Aero's current steerhide is CXL tanned by Horween and is the thick, heavy stuff that is full grain, not top grain.

I had my jacket made during April of this year. At that time, the order technically went in as "4oz Chrome Tanned Steerhide" . I am not sure whether they used Chromexcel Steerhide or the regular Chrome Tanned?

What does the label say inside the jacket? To definitively answer your question, you might have to get you answer from the horses's mouth, Aero, which ain't me. Some might say I am the other end of the horse. :D

Label says "made from genuine Steerhide". But that would be generic for all Steerhide. Nothing specific for CXL. I have emailed Aero but they're closed till Jan 6th

I don't think they would say one way or another as to the CXL-ness of the leather. If you post some pics it might help.

I did order the 4oz Steerhide. In fact, I even requested the heaviest they had available. Does make me a bit better hearing about what Ken said

Windstorm, are you sure you are man enough to handle such a jacket? In this case we must insist on pictures of your wearing it as proof. :D

Windstorm, I saw earlier pics of your LW Suburban jacket that is one of Stuart's FQHH masterpieces. I have always been imtrigued with that particular model of his. Looking at pics of your Suburban, I gather you ride a Harley. The only LW that I have seen is that of a friend of mine in E Tennessee, Wilbur (oneterrifichog) who also rides a Harley. My impression is that it would take three generations of oneterrifichogs to ever break in one of Stu's jackets. :eeek: Levity aside, I was very impressed with the construction, workmanship, and overall quality of LW's stuff. Still would like to see pics of your CXL steerhide jacket unless I missed earlier pics you might have posted.

Can you show this jacket on yourself? I have not found a single photo of a jacket on a person on the net.

So - Windstorm was last seen July 28, 2021. So much more recently than this thread was posted too.
You can just click on thier username to see.

I can see that Steerhide went through the same critique here as FQHH, before the time that I was a member.

In truth, Steerhide was my first love with Aero. Handled it in person in Thurston Brothers's former shop in Seattle. Have owned four of thier jackets in CXL Steerhide, however none were in brown.
