This arrived today. 1950s (I think) Adam DeLuxe Wilshire in "air gray". It's in fantastic condition but the felt could use a little steam cleaning. Open crown it's right at 5 3/4". It only has a 2 3/8" brim which is a real bummer as I don't really wear anything less than 2 1/2". It has the "Cavanagh/custom edge" (don't know what Adam called their treatment). This is my third Adam and I like all three. But I will most likely let this one go. I've learned I just won't wear anything below 2 1/2". I prefer 2 3/4" to 3". I just think wider brims looks better on my fat face.

Beautiful hat. Too bad you can't reconcile the dimensions to your tastes.

That is a beautiful hat, Bill. Pity you gonna have to let it go, but judging by the great hats you display you do know what works best for you. Shame it isn't my size.

Very nice looking Adam. It would be a little small for me, but I'm not averse to brims of this slim (sort of) width. Love the details of this one Bill. You know what works for you, which I applaud. I'm a hat slut, I'll wear 'em all!

2 3/8" as a slim brim? You and I have radically different definitions. Playboys have 2 3/8" brims - I don't consider them even remotely slim.

You've been taking advice from Joao, haven't you?

Adam Feather-Lite in Chrome. Size 56 with the brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the pinch. Mike @Redfokker had quite a bit of work done by Mike Miller on this one, because it was in a bit of a state. It was dirty and the sweatband just did not want to cooperate (so it was replaced). The liner or crown patch was missing. The liner is one I had made custom (inspired by Dogmans' efforts). It was worth it: it's a great hat. Not a very light feather though. Weighing in at 98 grams it's quite a bit heavier than the Champ Featherweight I'll post later.

Adam Executive Quality in charcoal grey. Label says "contiental" but I think that's supposed to be "continental". Underwelt brim at a hair under 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. Like the Champ before it's got a nice shape and proportions, but in the end the nice twisted knot won me over. The underwelt is very nicely done too, because on top it looks just like a cavanagh edge. I only noticed that the bow is asymmetrical: the front is shorter than the back.

Greetings all. Long time lurker, latest member. Figured I'd start with the "first name in hats," an Adam. Should make for a decent everyday beater hat. The ribbon is what drew me to this particular pork pie. Based on threads I've read on here this is probably late 50s or early 60s.

My apologies for poor picture quality. It will be a trial and error basis as I try different locations and lighting conditions. (For example, the leather sweatband is actually brown.)

A previous member was forming a list of names/styles for Adam hats several years ago, but I didn't find the Placid PTM. Here is my humble contribution.

This arrived yesterday. Adam Longpremier. Size 7, unlined and unreeded, colour Skyway. Bound brim at 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the center dent. Lovely lightweight felt with only 84 grams. This seems to be a Stratoliner clone from Adam (thin ribbon, straight crown, bound brim and soft felt). I'd say they did a great job. Gave me an excuse to plow through this whole thread again (a nice treat).
Seems these Long Adam hats are not that common. Late forties to early fifties I believe, which seems about right for this one. Paid only $30 for this one, which may have something to do with the auction pics. Let's start off with those. Hat looks a tiny bit darker than it in fact is, but what kept the price low is probably the pic of the sweatband, which doesn't look good. It is however only a minor issue where the colour came off, probably because of some sticker or price tag that had been sitting there. An easy fix.

Here are some other pics of the connection between Long's Hats and Adam Hats. From what I could figure out these companies were sitting next to each other on 663 and 665 Broadway, New York.

Eventually Long's was taken over by Adam, which was in turn take over by Miller Brothers. Would be interesting to find out something more about these New York adresses.

I like the color combo - a lot. Reminds me of my Demon Hanover and a couple other hats possessed by Loungers who are escaping me right now. I'm pretty sure Skyway is the model, not the color (it seems to be rare for the color to be tagged on most American hats). I had a Skyway pass through my hands a few years ago (link) - made a tidy little profit on the Bay with it. It was too small for me.

Thanks, Jim. Skyway seemed to fit the grey colour in my mind, but it's true my other Adam hats have a model name on the label, so that makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out. I do like this one best of my Adam hats because of the light weight and the way the felt handles.

Adam question. No pic available because my phone just went on the fritz. Came across a beautiful Adam fedora yesterday. Thinking mid 50's the liner and duplicate tag are labeled "The Winthrop" and the sweatband is embossed "DuroWeight" google searches have been fruitless. Any help is appreciated. Will post pics once phone is working.

Time to bump this thread. From my recent auction extravaganza haul, this Adam Executive:
IMG_20190827_161121357.jpg FullSizeRender.jpg FullSizeRender.jpg IMG_1504.JPG IMG_1505.JPG IMG_1506.JPG
Specs:
2-3/4" Brim
5-3/4" Crown (open)
1-11/16" Ribbon
1/2" Brim Binding (symmetric)
5.3oz Weight
Beautiful hat in a medium brown color, with hints of chestnut in certain light. At 7-1/2 LO this sadly is too big for my head so it will be posted in the Classifieds for trade/sale, so stay tuned!
