Anybody else out there that loves ABBA music?

I have 2 ABBA albums - actual vinyl record albums. "Voulez Vous" and "Arrival."

Sometimes in the car I find myself belting out "Fernando." But only when I am alone!

I'm addicted to the internet. Instant messaging, eBay, Wikipedia, the list goes on. I also like mostly modern movies, though my DVD collection does contain a few classics. But mostly..

I'm a skateboarder.

I'd describe myself as Old School-meets-New Skool (the latter being a nod to my like of colorful, modern tattoo imagery). What's not exactly vintage about me? Well- I'm (also) an Ipod addict. My current favorite playlist is a mix of Be-Bop and remixed be-bop tracks. I have my ears pierced. I have tattoos (though I'm still catching up to my wife). I love punk and industrial. I'm an arcade junkie (nothing will ever capture the feel of my youth so much as standing at a machine to play a video game). The list goes on.

I'm more a melting pot of styles. I love my cowboy boots but love a good suit. My music ranges from classical to rock and my taste in literature is far ranging. A buddy of mine refers to me has a Reinasance man. I kind of like that title.

I am more non vintage than vintage. But I would like that to change. For the past few months now I have been trying to dress more vintage here and there. I do this mostly with vintage inspired things. For work I can wear whatever I want, so I have been trying to wear heels, instead of flip flops. I do wear the flip flops to get groceries, and when I am driving around town. I love all types of music, so my cd player is full of different things, like Oldies, Modern Rock, Old school rap, just about everything. I do like the modern conveniences of today, but there are things with today's society that annoy me, and I long for days gone by. Sometimes I feel like I am torn between two worlds. My fiance doesn't like anything vintage, but he accepts that most things I love are old. Cars, music, clothes, dishes, values. I have 8 tattoo's and plan to get more, but I'm not rockabilly. I love Dooney and Bourke purses, but would never wear any clothing with a "label" on it.[huh] I like having cable tv with 9 million stations, but would rather read or play a board game. I like having email, but I love it when I recieve a card or letter in the mail. Even though I am not as vintage as I would like to be, I still feel like I don't mesh with today's world.

Also... The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Bauhaus, Kate Bush, The Smiths and Olivia Newton-John...ok, yes, I grew up in the 70's and 80's. :D ... Actually, I suppose some wouldn't consider that non-vintage anymore...

WOW!! I love Abba, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie, Type O Negative,Autumn, Stone 588,The Cure, Alanis Morisette, Nirvana,..................and my all time favorite, can't listen to enough band: DEPECHE MODE

I also LOVE the Cure! And Depeche Mode I like as well ;) When I go out with my non vintage friends, we go to indie clubs, and, yes, I dance to all the indie songs, and yes, I also enjoy the music there ;) I also like to pogo. I also enjoy electro-punk, some punk rock, and death rock/ batcave (never mind if you don't know what that means) And I'm a big Soul Williams fan (he's a rapper, but not really) My dream couples are Marilyn Manson+Dita von Teese and Rob Zombie+Cherry Zombie, I'm pierced (yes, I thought about giving them up, but just can't by now), and I sometimes like those punk boys  And I only believe that conceptual art really is art.
Sometimes I think I'm a walking contradiction, yes, yes......

I'm mainly counter-vintage. I usually only wear vintage at special events or formal events. I wish I could waer vintage more often. But the problems are, I'm in school most of the day with those Abercrombie robots. If I wear anything retro, it's seen as a Halloween costume rather than a style. The other reason is just my lifestyle in general. Between marching band and running around with my friends, I do want someting that will give me more fexibility and I don't want to worry about ruining my vintage clothing.

*Salivates* Death Cab For Cutie vinyl. And so beautiful...

I'm slowly shaking off my non-vintage tendencies. Though I could never wear vintage things 24/7 I do prefer to go with vintage-inspired all day long. For instance, I've gotten to the point where I feel lousy if I have to wear pants instead of a skirt, or even better, a dress. I've stopped wearing my hats because I didn't feel it was very appropriate for a young lady to cavort around in a fedora. I felt like a boy. Besides, it was a pretty cheap hat. Sturdy, but cheap.

I'm also hindered by the fact that I still live at home (I'm only twenty so it's not so bad) and therefore have next to no say in the decor.

When I move back to Chicago (at least for a few years, then I'll more than likely come back to Detroit) I want my studio or flat decked out in real wood and a nice cloth sofa. I'm going for the Crosley upright and a nice desk fan from Restoration Hardware.

one MAJOR counter-vintage thing about me is that i listen to a lot of punk music, and some hip-hop. my main musical interst is in psychobilly, which is, in a way counter-vintage (its punk attitude also plays into its sound), but its roots are still in rockabilly, country and surf.

im also not very "ladylike". i shave my legs once a month or so, and half the time cant be bothered to wear much other than jeans and a blouse. and my favorite pair of pants right now are a pair of black, stretch pegged "punk rock" jeans.

vintage style is in my heart, but my taste in music is just as much.
