MK,

I just registered at your site earlier today. Thanks for posting those sentiments. As a preacher for a church of the Lord here in Fort Worth, I don't think I need to tell you where I stand. America would do well to recall the forgotten words of Patrick Henry in 1776, who said--

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great Nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here."

America's strength is NOT her diversity, but rather her foundation on Biblical principles. To chip away at those principles is to commit cultural suicide. The New Testament is not vague about what is decent and what is not, so it would not be difficult to rewrite decency laws to reflect divine principles. I would certainly be in favor of Congress doing so, but won't hold my breath.

Well, time to don the Optimo and head home to the family...pwd

My first post on the Fedora Lounge. Hello, gentlefolk.

I now realize why the sense of community is so strong here (and IG). A fairly well-known paraphrase, "Where two or more are gathered, there I will be also." Based on this thread, and a few other indications I have observed, I don't think it's an accident that we are together.

Better days are ahead, my friends. For now, we continue to pray for each other. It's the most powerful tool in the shop.

Thanks for standing by your principles.....

Just wanted to say how refreshing and enjoyable it is to be able to associated with such a classy group of folks. I think there is something to the old saying that "you are judged by the company you keep". Knowing that there are others out there who maintain their morals to a higher standard can prove to be an example for others to follow. Our son is 3 1/2 years old and we often think about this world he will be growing up in. Parents have to be the example that they follow. It all starts at home.....At least it used to! It is sad to see how many have strayed and lost their way. Forgive my rant as well but I just wanted to say bravo for being a witness for your faith and your principles. Highest regards, Williamson.

pwd, I gotta ask where? I'm in Arlington. Reading all these posts it's good to see there are many like-minded here (not just in their morals but in faith too).

Took the weekend off and this is what I get?

I missed the opportunity to add my long winded rant on this subject on the first page!

Sunday I had to take back a movie that I rented from the local Movie Gallery, the BEST franchise around. They rent NOTHING but WIDESCREEN or the original Aspect Ratio. The movie that we rented ?¢‚Ǩ?ìDefiance?¢‚Ǩ? wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t smut, but it was just awful. [Guys?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ I found a movie that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s actually WORSE then Howard the Duck.] I took up the clerks offer to exchange the movie for something else after I complained.

To be fair, I picked two movies... one I was going to pay for, The Unforgiven and one that I thought was another Western: The Jack Bull. Got to the counter and casually read the spine?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ it read: ?¢‚Ǩ?ìPlayboy Photo-shoot?¢‚Ǩ?. I left it with the clerk while I went to get the real disk I wanted to rent.

I got to the car and I thought about all the what-ifs. What would have happened if I didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t read the spine and took home the Playboy flick? How would my wife feel if she read the spine? What would have happened if I just pooped it in with out even looking?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ we often just grab one and go?

The worst part of all, the thought crossed my mind that I could have brought it home and I could have hid it somewhere she couldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t find it and she would have never have known.

Sad thing about Porn is that it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s so available and it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a poor substitute for the real thing. It gives men the wrong notions about sex?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ and it gives women unrealistic expectations to live up to. Most women already have poor images of themselves, now they have to be sexual acrobats, too?

I love and adore my wife. It takes a real man to keep a woman happy time after time.

I don't see a problem with a video store renting/selling videos I don't care to watch. I don't see the point in being offended. I have yet to find a store that specializes in carrying EVERYTHING I want and nothing else.

Nor do I really see a problem with other people wanting to watch it.

That's just me.

As long as the rows are marked and I can find my action flicks and Westerns, and the staff is pleasant, dirty movies would never affect my choice in video stores.

Has anyone watched this trash lately? I was in the car dealer waiting room and it was on. They were talking about a diet for good sex, and went into detail. It was really gross, icky, inappropriate. The room was full of creepy men staring at me anyway, then this hypersexualized "news" is on. What about little kids watching this? Thankfully my car was ready before any Vagisil or Viagara commercials came on. Even Tide laundry soap now has some sort of pleasuring scent. Whatever.

I agree wholeheartedly. Who cares if people watch pornography? It's nobody's business, and those people look guilty because moralistic people look down on them all of the time.

Guess what? Some guys are socially inept, and they also have a libido! You say it's a poor subsitute for the real thing? If I'm broke, I'll have a hamberger instead of a steak.

As long as I'm not forced to walk through these sections to get to what I want, I don't have a problem with it. I do think some places need to monitor their patrons a little better when it comes to these kinds of things; I've seen many under age looking kids sneaking back to these closed off sections and that makes me upset. Same goes for magazines too - I hate browsing the stands only to find a half-naked person staring back at me!

I certainly understand being offended by it, though, and commend those of you who stick so strongly by your convictions to take your patronage elsewhere. Personally, I don't care what someone watches/does in their personal, private time so long as no one is being harmed.

An alternative might be Blockbuster's on-line rentals or Netflix if you don't want to shop at certain stores.

The local video store that used to be near my house had a tiny porn section- it was a broom closet with shelves. The door was always closed and locked and they wouldn't let you in unless you showed ID to prove you're over 18.

I went to my local Blockbuster not long after the video store closed. What angered me was that they had porn on a shelf in the back. Not a seperate area. And it was low to the ground, where kids could easily see it.

If people want to look at porn, fine. But DON'T expose little kids to that.

I know what MK is talking about as i live in the same town he does.Like most of America, very few independent shoppes anymore in almost ANY industry. The fat-cat conglomerates have taken over.
As for porn and other associated films, etc:I believe in the right to do what you like in your own home as long as it doesn't hurt or affect others.Of course, this doesn't include criminal acts. But porn has been around since the dawn of time, whether in a novel, book, art work, sculpture or video. It will always be here. And in it's proper place(for ADULTS ONLY)i don't have a problem with it.I might not like it, but we are all different. Some like it,some do not. That can be said for vegetables, hobbies and all other likes and dislikes. And one persons definition of porn might not be the same as the other. My mother thinks the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue as smutty. So i guess it is how you view it.

This is where parents need to be diligent in protecting their children and educating them.We cannot depened on the schools to do it.Or the government.Thats not what they are there for.
Education starts at home.

Very Well Put, Chamoro!...

We would all like to think that, armed with morality and common sense, we can tell what is pornography and what is not.

BUT....I know no one here has suggested that we start a campaign to outlaw porn but this is how those well-intentioned but misguided laws start.

Bottom line is, each individual should be responsible for his own acts; his own morality or lack thereof.

For me, I'd rather not have book burnings. We've had too much fire here.

These are my sentiments exactly. To each his own. Pornography (for lack of a better term) predates Christianity. The perversion of Christianity over the last two thousand years doesn't warrant the closing of churches - but certainly people are free to obtain their spiritual re-creation wherever they like. Life is a big old smogasbord - take what you like but leave the rest. Me? I like asparagus and oysters but I'm NOT about to ban loaves and fishes.

Don't get too carried away there, matey! This is the Fedora Lounge, not bible study! Not all of us Golden Era gents are bible thumpers. I promise not to talk politics if you'll promise not to give us a liturgy.

And.... so are you a Borso man or Stetson? Stingy or wide? Thin ribbon or broad?
