A redistribution of your vintage resources.

This article and in particular the quote noted below started me thinking about all of the collections I have seen at the Lounge. Everything from suits, hats, periodicals, housewares, etc. etc. is collected by someone somewhere.
Harry Belafonte is going to auction rare documents relating to MLK. His comments are insightful and generous considering the historical value of the documents.

In a telephone interview, Belafonte said he was putting his documents up for sale because "I am at the end of my life — I will be 82 shortly — and there are a lot of causes I believe in for which resources are not available, and there is a need to redistribute those resources."

Does anyone have plans for their collections?

Hmmmmm I don't think I have any collections that are valuable for anyone else.


That said, I do have a plan for a few of my things.

My vintage pattern collection goes to Vanessa, who is the best caretaker of patterns I know. She will treat them like added treasures.

My collection of Modern Priscilla magazines from the 1910's and 1920s will go to Lauren, since she has Modern Priscilla's as well and they should be -together-.

Other then that, I am probably only possessed of a vintage linen collection, and that I am taking applications for guardian of


The rest can go to an estate sale...where fine people like yourselves can buy it.

My vintage movie magazines are going to my husband. Since he isn't a 10s/20s/30s/40s movie freak like I am, he has told me flat out he's going to sell them. Thus putting them in the hands of other collectors who will cherish them like I do.

I have collected nearly every single (from 2004 and previous) comic book appearance of The Punisher, including busts, posters, games, movies, and other titles, etc. I don't think my collection is "valuable" to most people, but for insurance purposes, it's valued around $9000.

Who will I leave it to? My children, I suppose, if I were to have any. However, I highly doubt they'll receive much at Antique Roadshow.

I haven't decided yet where my research files from my radio work will go -- I was considering the Fogler Library at the University of Maine, since I've had some dealings with them in the past, but the guy who's running Special Collections there now is not exactly stirring up dust, and he'd probably never bother to unpack them. So I don't know -- they may go to SPERDVAC or some other radio/broadcating history organization.

What little I have that's of any value will stay in the family. I'll make sure they know what's considered to be vintage artifacts and what's not. I consider each item I have that is antique or vintage as another step toward preserving what's left of the Golden Era.

If you're a cat lover, consider setting up a charitable trust with a sympatico organization as beneficiary. A little money, even after final expenses, goes a long way towards relatively cheap efforts like spay and neuter clinic funding.

I for one intend to leave my "estate," such as it is, to an animal welfare organization. That way, my collection (growing) of vintage fur felt hats can be sold and the proceeds spent in a divine justice, what goes-around comes-around kind of way, benefitting animals that are mere commodities to us 'humans.'
