Hi boys! I just found this and wasn't quite sure what I stumbled across. Looks 50's to me, but it was cheap so I picked it up. What exactly did I find here? And what's the back called? It's not a sewn belt back, but more connected on the sides...

Oh you poor dear.

It's really common. Quite valueless.

What size is it? If it's a 46 I'd be happy to help you out and take it off your hands... :)

Nah, s'ok! It was like $3. I just thought I'd take a shot.
It's about a size 42, I guess. I'd have to go measure. But I figured if it wasn't worth anything that I'd cut it down for myself, cause I like the wool :D

I wish I knew more about vintage jackets to speak with authority, but it is a very nice looking jacket and certainly worth $3.

If it is from the 70s, it is firmly in that period of 30s and 40s revival. The wool has a very nice vintage look. I wish the tailor did a little better job at joining the pattern at the back seam, but that is no big deal. I like the scalloped pockets, and those buttons look nice.

Are they something other than plastic? They look like abalone.

The lining is interesting; half-lining makes me think it is a summer jacket. Summer jackets in the 70s weren't typically wool.

The lapels throw me. On 30s and 40s jackets, they are usually horizonal, nearly perfectly level. On most of the 70s jackets I have seen, they pointed up. These point down.

All I know is I could make a great 30s outfit with that jacket, some plus-fours, and an 8-panel hat.

A great find! :)

Of course I know nothing at all about that jacket...

A guy can try, eh?

I like it a lot. As HJ says, I could make a heckuva fixup with that jacket as a starting point!

Thanks so much, gents! The buttons I think are plastic and there is one missing... now the question... do you think it's worth Ebaying or should I cut it down...

Here and there...
Isn't that a union label (the white one)
It should have a date on it somewhere. it will be tiny, difficult to read and on the edge. On some of mine it has been tucked under the stitching.

where's Root when you need him?
:)
