A French-German tv channel has a special theme day today: "Black & White has many colors".

They started off with Berlin, Symphony of a Metropolis, a 1927 movie by Walther Ruttmann. It's much like a documentary, only a few scripted scenes, no intertitles. It shows pretty much every aspect of every day street life, some of work life, sports, a.s.o.
(unfortunately, no inside-the-home shots).
You can stream it on the channel's page for the next 7 days.

Or watch it on youtube
(I recommend to stream it on the tv channel, the quality is much better than the youtube video)

Or download it on the internet archive: http://archive.org/details/BerlinSymphonyofaGreatCity

_____________

They also showed a much shorter movie with a more personal look at
street life in New York East Harlem, by Helen Levitt, 1948: In the Street
You can watch it here.
The quality is pretty bad, though. If anyone knows a better source, please let us know.
