Good Evening,
I am new to the list and a friend of a lounge member who got me into vintage Fedora Hats. I look forward to being on the list.
I always liked a Fedora but never had one; so a couple weeks ago I bought new; a Dobbs Dayton and a Miller Amherst. The other day when I was talking to my friend, I happened to have my Dobbs on; that was when he enlightened me on vintage hats. My friend has a lot of experience in hats and a collection as well; and he has re-done quite a few for himself. He offered to jazz up the Amherst for me....I'll take him up on that and in the process learn something about fixing up a hat. I like the Amherst but I felt it needed a little something to liven it up. So with some advice and a forward of some e-bay links, I ordered some vintage Grosgrain that I think will dress up the Amherst very nicely and I look forward to seeing it transformed into something more personalized.
So armed with a little new knowledge on vintage, the very next day I got lucky, I acquired a very nice 50's Cavanaugh and will be getting a sweet looking Adams Premiere in a few days which I think may be a 40's era hat. As I get familiar with this web site I will post some pictures.
I always liked vintage things, cars, motorcycles and Bamboo Fly Rods; since I can't afford to buy a vintage cane rod, I learned to make my own from scratch.......now hats....that's something I can afford from time to time. I look forward to building a collection and who knows......I'll probably make one one of these days just like when I had the itch to carve a briar pipe; I dig making my own things.
Buying Problem...........BIG HEAD ! Size 7 3/4
If anyone could ever help me out with a nice Vintage hat my size, I appreciate the help. I look forward to hearing back from you in the forum.
Have a good one !
Tim
