A coat of Pecards for my creaking G-1

My 92 Cooper G-1 has creaked since day one and I don't mean just a little. I thought I had given it a coat of Pecard leather dressing when I got it but I may have been using Lexol at the time. Anyway it sounded like a couple of sumo wrestlers going at it for the sumo wresteling championship of the world on an old leather sofa anytime I would move in it. So I rubbed in a light coat of Pecards on every millimeter of the leather, then I slipped it on and it didn't make a sound. Couldn't make iit creak no matter what I did. So, how long should I let it soak up the Perdards and how long til the creak returns?

I usually let the Pecards soak in for a couple days and then I wipe the excess off with a cotton rag. Hopefully you will be creak free for a few months if not longer

Seems to last about a month or less for me but the damn creaking always seems to return on the two jackets I have that creak.

My experience has been to only Pecard the seams where the threads are. I think it is the threads moving against the leather that causes the creaking. With a good application my creaks have stopped for several months, perhaps much longer.

Thanks for the replies fellows, it was actually drier than I thought it to be. It sucked the Pecards up like a sponge so I may coat it again this weekend to make sure it got all it needed. When it starts again I'll start with the seams and go from there.

I grabbed it the other day and my youngest (10) saw it and said "you aren't going to wear that are you, it sounds terrible dad".

A fellow member mentioned using talc powder on the seams, apparently fixes the noises quite well. I haven’t tried it but I have a 70’s G-1 Imperial Fashions that’s super noisy. I’ll give it a try soon.

Yes, talc powder will work, but I have found the Pecard treatment is easier to apply. Actually most any good conditioner should do the trick.
