Goatskin is actually more durable that other leathers namely horsehide or steerhide. Which website were you on? Any reason this jacket needs to be U.S. Made? There are many choices if you take the U.S. manufactured restriction off. I.e. Eastman, Aero, Goodwear, Real McCoys, Buzz Rickson, and The Few. But, don't worry about goat being to thin to do the job, it works just fine and holds up really well.

Here is some of Eastman's goat you can find on their Cable Raincoat. It is simply to die for. I don't own it anymore, this picture is about 4 years old, the only reason I sold it was because it was too big.

And the goat on this one is about 68 years old and it's holding up better than anything you can buy today.

I own several goat hide jackets. LW G-1, Star Sportswear G-1, Foster G-1 and USA Authentic A-2. The Sportswear and Foster are over 25 years old and look fantastic. The USA A-2 is 3 years old and I love the color and feel of their jackets. For an entry level A-2 theirs is hard to beat. US Wings might be another option for you. I do not own any G&B jackets, but on the Indy web site they love their goat Indy jackets. Has Senicko pointed out, there are many choices and the makers he listed would be hard to beat. Bottom line is how much are you willing to spend? Good Luck and happy hunting.

As you know from your prior horsehide A-2, US A jackets are sized long. If that is not an issue for you then their goat A-2 would be a good choice for you at a good price and decent quality. If price does not matter then there are many other companies you can check out as other members have noted. If you want the best deal for the price with less hastle then stay with US companies.

ELC goat

Steve,
Of the three photos of the ELC A-2, which is truest to the actual colour ? I like the reddish russet in the middle photo but it's not clear what the true colour is.
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry it took so long to respond, been quite busy. The top photo is about the best representation of the actual colour.
