Good Lord, I'm assuming they went that high due to the size?

Which makes you wonder: Would someone be crazy enough to wear them?

Buzz Ricksons already makes these type of boots as do a few other companies over there and here. I would guess that scarcity and demand created the high price.

50s work boots

Just a note: After punching horse hide [separate words] into ebay search I found a pair of deadstock 50s work boots in a 7.5. No resrve.They are bloody nice. Somebody smaller needs to check these out. 20 hrs left on these with no bids as yet. Not sure if a PM allows me to divulge the item # but in any case these need to be checked out. Naw I ain't the vendor...just scoutin' for bargoons. Go look if these sort of boots are your thing...they'll likely be off to Japan at the end of it all. Can't see how these will be missed. Beauties!...and worth keeping an eye on 'cause one never knows. Kismet baby...!

I luckily got two pairs of those Timberland Boot Company boots on clearance last year (the ones that usually sell for about $200+), the ones that are supposed to look like boots from the earlier half of the century (even though Timberland hasn't been around that long). I got the Tackhead Patch in Black and some chukka style ones that I forget the name of. I kind of like them because they look like classic boots. Though they don't sell them in the US anymore Havana Joe had some nice chukkas, the Black and Brown greasy, I think you can import them still but they aren't cheap (you might be able to find them in your size they occasionally turn up). I have a pair of the black ones and they look like a classic well made boot they've held up well for me.

Norwegian work boots

Taught I would share my thrift store find last week:

A pair of old square toe work boots, made by the "Jarl" (which means "Earl") factory her in Trondheim, probably before 1923 when the factory moved to another city.

Too small for me (size 41), but I just had to buy these beautiful example of traditional workmanship and quality. And the price was not too bad either, about $11.

As found in the thrift store

Fully lined. Model number and factory logo.

Beautiful triple stitching

After cleaning, conditioning, touch up of the sole welt, polishing and replacing the 50's ski boot laces.

Would appreciate any idea of dating.

I was thinking of ski boots myself, but here in Norway the welts on the side of the toe would have been broader, I think, for ski boots. And yes, these are hobnails, which also speaks against ski boots, in my opinion. Maybe also they are too nicely made for being intended for rough use in the wild Norwegian mountains

The curve in the heel could be a stylistic feature, but could also allow for ski attachment. It reminds me of the more definite groove you see around the heel of later period leather ski boots.

Whites Semi Dress

Well after years of coveting from afar I finally pulled the trigger on these Whites Semi Dress. I had them add a toe cap. Personal preference for style.

I'm really diggin' them!

Bought them from a little place down here in San Diego (Actually the place is in El Cajon) called Sams Shoe and Boot Repair. The guy in there is great! He fits you for the boot and it is made to your specs. while I was getting fitted he called Whites directly to check on a detail. He fits Whites work boots for a lot of firemen and smoke jumpers. When I went in to pick them up he said "Hey you know they sell a bunch of these in Japan!" He had no idea about the whole 30s/40s workwear thing.

I wouldnt hesitate to do business with him again.

I agree about the Whites. I just can't take mine off and I wear them almost every day. I have never had a pair of shoes that felt better than these do. Worth every penny - and them some.
