3 men in a boat

Just for amusement I put these three Stetsons in a row in order of brim width.
From R-L a Hampton, San Juan, and Open Road, they are all Australian Stetsons though, and probably made by Akubra, but the felt is definitely softer than your usual Akubra

Did you replace all the ribbons

...or just the OR?
They all look great, BTW. I have a vintage Akubra made OR & I adore it! The hat, I believe, is no more than 10 yrs. old. The seller said, by his recollection, that Akubra lost the Stetson license about 10 yrs. ago so that was as old as he could swear it to be. It has a fantastic cherry red liner & the felt is near equal to my 50 yr. old Royal Deluxe OR, certainly a better product than Stetson has turned out for at least the last 20-some-odd years. Thanks for the photos!

Thanks for posting.

dr. greg, Those are three lovely hats!

If I may ask, what is the book pictured Empire Annual and what are the statue/figures reflected in the mirror? I am intrigued by the shape of the mirror as well.
And, I like the chest. :)

i sent this priv, but yr box is full

Sorry about the late reply but sometimes you forget some posts and don't go back, the Empire Annual is one of those classic British Boy's books of the 1st 1/2 of the 20th C. I have quite a few, they are full of dashing hero stories of chaps against savage tribes etc, great stuff...the statue is an art deco by P Roche, and I know nothin about him! The mirror is a pretty standard 30s/40s post deco very common in australian homes of the period and belonged to the wife's grandma., the chest is a repro, as my wife hates the way the drawers always stick on all the other old ones that are scattered round the house

the doc.

Lined up, three in a row, on top of my tall bedroom bookcase are two Stetsons and a Barnel "The Eugene" fedoras. Friends who have never seen the house before and take the brief tour (a small '20's LA bungalow) for the first time always comment the most about the three "old man" hats. The trio is a real conversation starter. In the kitchen I have a small bottle found under the house which came from the Prohibition period as it carries a warning "Not TO Contain Alcohol". Another touch of old man history.
