Hey, I'm not sure if online hat retailers have any kind of reputation around here, but browsing around I came across this page on Village Hatshop, where they're clearing out their stock of wool-felt porkpies because of a printing error inside the band. Not sure if the quality is up to the standards held here, but, I figured I'd let everyone know, and then sit back and learn.

There's a shop here in Sydney that caters for the stylish chap about town, beautiful suits, shoes, shirts, but damm, their selection of hats are well below par, branded new york hats, wool felt, so stiff if you snapped the brim it would snap in two, no more than coustume hats, the owner asked why I dont buy hats from him, I was too embarrased to tell him that his hats were a joke, he wants $140.00 Aust dollars per hat, give me a break, they are crap, how do I plug him into the real deal of hat lovers? store name Skin deep, cool store if you want to look it up, number of movie stars seem to frequent the store, but stupid hats!

Maybe you should take him a few good hats and gently show him the difference. Or hire some thugs to do it? lol

There's a store here in Muskegon (might be Muskegon Heights, the city lines aren't very clear) called "The Hat Collection" that deals in New York Hat Co. stuff as well. I think men's hats are really just a sideline for the owner, however, who seems primarily focused on fancy ladies hats for older African-American women to wear to church. Her prices are okay, though, about $42 for a brown fedora of nice proportions. It could be an excellent introduction to hat wearing for men who are somewhat timid about buying/wearing a more-expensive hat, especially sight-unseen.

When the shop deals in higher-end mens clothing, though, I agree, there's simply no excuse. In Grand Rapids there's a store called F. David Barney that carries very nice stuff, but in the corner their hat display is pitiful, a bunch of wool felts with leather bands, it doesn't go with the rest of the store at all. The salesman offered me the lame excuse that the hat manufacturers force them to buy a hat in each size, so they won't carry nicer merchandise. I say even at a significant markup, they should be reselling something decent for the flush customer looking for a nice finishing touch.

But I think we digress, we were talking about wool porkpies. Could be a good intro hat for someone, but I've moved beyond wool felts, I'm afraid.
