1940s - Republican Party question (non political though)

In the 1940s, my great grandfather owned a house that apparently was site of the 81st or 84thAD Republican Party as of 1945....It doesn't come up on the 1940 census, but here it is in a 1945-1946 era photo:

My mother grew up from 1954-1961 in that house...with the pillars. I am curious, with that entire generation gone, if there is any way I could find out what their ties to the local GOP were? And if it meant they were Republicans themselves, or simply making money.

I doubt anyone has voter registration rolls that far back, and in fact I'm unsure if one would need to declare party affiliation then. But that seems the best bet, if no diaries or letters exist.

Assembly Districts in New York City in the Era were organized on a neighborhood basis, with the headquarters of the various parties usually either being rented office space in inexpensive buildings or someone's home. Either way, someone in the building was a volunteer official of the neighborhood party committee.
