A very classic jacket.

What a wonderful find for the price. As the boys will tell you, you'd find this on internet auction sites for silly prices with the normal Luftwaffe heritage story to boot.

You don't need a fake story behind a jacket. A great jacket is always a GREAT Jacket!! Well Done!!:eusa_clap

Ukali's jacket has a buckle with a post-49 patent, at least.

I meant, of course, "unless" Ukali has "misread" "DRP" as "DBP" but it in fact reads "DRP" (Deutscher Reichspatent, which we knew about already). I suspect this to be the case, and the buckle to be pre-44 DRP production, firmly dating the bits 'n' pieces, at least, to wartime or earlier. (There was a recent misreading of the BCWrN as BCWfN - p'r'aps by aswatland? - on the rear of a ZIPP pull which threw me for a loop until it was confirmed that it was BCWrN not BCWfN. Not that anyone knows what the mysterious BCWrN means.)

We await photos of the rear portion of the buckle and the ZIPPs. All will become clear.

DBP it is, then. Very interesting. Who knows what it means? Another mystery to add to the list . . .

Deutscher Buckle Patent? ;) The ZIPPs are clearly DRP on that eBay suit.

bk

Didn't we agree that the "B" in DBP is for "Bund's", as opposed to Reich's..?

"B" is '49 or later and "R" is wartime and earlier.

I was confused in the easrlier post- was transposing the meaning of the two patent abbr's.

Yes, it's possible. Is it likely that the patent number would remain the same after regime change, with just a acronym change? Because it does look like a B in the auction photo too, not an R. Though the ZIPPs are DRP. sigh

I think my Bundes Patent scheme is a good one, though. Maybe some German members can enlighten us as to whether this was/is a real acronym? (frankly i made it up. It sounded plausible. Sorry if it sounded like i thought i was being authoritative. Pure guess-work.)

Closure

Deutsches Bundes Patent (DBP) replaced the indecipherable "BCWrN" in 1949. A simple google search for Deutsches Bundes Patent generated this info. (lots of interesting stuff about Leicas too). My speculum has been accurate this week!

So, a jacket with a buckle with DBP either has a replacement buckle or it was produced after 1949. BCWrN seems to have been from '44-'49, and perhaps used interchangably alongside DRP. DRP pre-'44.

whew.

Does anyone else notice that leather jacket nerd-ism is fast becoming the most educationally interesting and stimulating facet of the FLounge? What with the Irvin thread and the varied and sundry german leather threads. Maybe i'm insane, but we seem to be getting somewhere with sorting out some of the stickyness re: dating them.

Let us adjourn to the zippers thread to await some input re: Riri y PRYM from friend BT.

I agree to further research on the history of German patent acronyms.

bk

That's RiRi.

"I agree to further research on the history of German patent acronyms."

Sounds like a great New Year's resolution.
Crack out the speculum!

I had a look at RiRi y PRYM and almost cried when I discovered, to my horror,
... not marking beyond branding... blubbering fool.

It is interesting to be able to see some sense in all this.
I'm sure I'd heard of the DRP/DBP Reichs/Bundes thing before- maybe it's that German eBay guy with the elaborate images and descriptions.

A couple of academics showing their research skills and extrapolating, with a modicum of speculum, as you say- academics with cool interests, I may add.

I will try and takes some pics tomorrow- working nights at present- just got home. Daylight will make some nice,
macro zip close-ups of RiRi y PRYM.

Closure... hehe...
Nice one.

YKK when you can ZIPP?
Ruuuurrhhhhhhh...!
PRYM and popper.
