Many thanks! Odd thing is, that belted back suit was half the price of the black diagonal stripe suit ... yet it could probably fetch twice as much (on eBay).

Even odder, that vintage clothing store is oneI haven't bothered to go to for years. Really don't know what made me do so yesterday. It was there, in 1985, that I bought my very first piece of vintage clothing: a heavy grey '30s overcoat with an NRA tag in it. Wonder what ever happened to it ...

.

It was the call of the suit that lured you back to that shop, it felt your presence and cried out for liberation. lol

As for being fortunate to have such items still with us, yeah, it's amazing when you think about it. I remember when I bought my first vintage suit and first felt that heavy fabric and connected with the history of the suit. I remember trying it on and feeling so sharp when I saw its wide lapels and tailored waist fitting my form. It felt like I was continuing something grand and important, that I was absorbing something of the era and aesthetic I loved and connecting with it. I felt confident and at home in the suit.

Everytime I see a suit, hat or tie that's survived all those years, it amazes me and makes me very happy.

That is a lovely suit.

I think Flannel Suits are the nicest you can get, and a light flannel is so rare as well.

Well done,

Ben
Yes. This suit should be the cover shot for the next Classic Style.

Pleated Back

Could this suit be the find of the year? I can't imagine anyone finding a better treasure than this. What a gem! The sports back with the centre pleat is something else. This has been your week for suits, huh, Marc? I'm glad that you took the time to check out that vintage store yesterday (but not as glad as you are! :D ), that suit will now be cherished and looked after as it should be.

Does the idea of the big box pleat compensate for the lack of the "action back" on the sleeve wings under the shoulders? Please advise.

By the way Benny it shows you how good your copy was from the guy in Liverpool. He should see this baby IMHO.

So inverse and reverse are opposites?

Can we start calling them obverse pleats instead of inverse? Or don't coin collectors give a damn about good clothes?

I refer to them as forward and reverse. If you ask me, there is a correct way! Forward pleats give a much nicer line on the leg, and have forever spoiled me for reversed pleats.
