This thread reminded me of a movie i had seen some months ago. I couldn't remember the title and had William Bendix stuck in my head. I finally found it starring Wallace Beery. The Bugle Sounds

Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

Seriously, though, it may not be perfectly accurate, but it's got a good flavor for the topic, a compelling story, and is decently acted. Can you name a better '30s U.S. Cavalry film from the last 30 years?

Hi all,

I just received a set of WW2 cavalry pants/jodhoppers that I got on E-Bay. Now what do I do about boots? Are there any repros out there? Or decent modern alternatives?

There are reproductions out there, just got to look for them. Originals (decent ones), of course, are difficult to find and can be quite pricey...If you are looking for just leather leggings, they are available from time to time. And regarding modern alternatives, that is doubtful, but, you never know...

Craig, you may want to do a google search for M1930 full laceup boots or look around for a pair of officer's russett brown 3 buckle boots. I might suggest What Price Glory or Motor Cowboy for starters.

If you are looking to replicate the boots of the 30s and 40s, I would go with russet brown, especially if you have the khaki colored breeches. There are other vendors but you will need to browse to find them. I have a pair of black 3-buckle boots from Motor Cowboy and can attest to their quality.

In the 30s, the enlisted cav soldiers wore the russet brown M1930 full lace up boots. The officers wore the Russet brown 3 buckle boots with the laces. They also wore the full dress boot as well that would be without laces or buckles (i.e. plain riding boot). Hope that helps.

Yes, please share. I would especially love to see the mounted photos, both closeup and distant. That would be great.

Hi Widebrim and Draws,

Thanks for the info and sorry for the late reply. When you live in the N.E. US, and it is March, and it is t-shirt weather, computers take a back seat... lol

And thanks for the links to boots Draws - much appreciated.

Great pic! I checked out the website. Was hoping to find out more about Rudy. There has to be a great back story to go with that photo. It's great that he would honor his father, and uncle that way.

Loneranger and all>This is an old post but saw it and joined so I could reply to this . First you see the saber because I am representing my father who served during 1923-1926 when the saber was in use with the 1903 springfield. This photo was taken during one of the 20 years I rode in a local parade call Felton's Rememberance Days during Memorial Weekend. I also did my dad's brother (uncle) 1936-1945 and one of their cousins 1940 Mia 1942.

The story is one of many you have heard "never knew you did that" but to late in life to gather info. So I rode in honor of them and now participate with the Philippine Scout Heritage Society and Nininger Chapter out of Los Angles who also does reenacting in that area.
