I'm glad my 20s vice is shared by so many gorgeous ladies, with some many beautiful pieces.

I second that Mojito, years ago when I first started looking at the 20's I felt it was a very neglected period and over looked.
this thread proved that it is not today especially with all these photos of dresses etc.
I am always very presently surprised every time I read it.

clubwitsend those black stockings are just devine.

TessTrueHart, I'm sure Leluxe would ship to you - they've sent things down to me here in Oz (and are very fast!). I have quite a few of their slips and some of their bandeaux.

They do indeed ship to sweden, and they are even looking for a retailer over here to stock their clothing. They seem very helpful and friendly!

A slight move to the left or right with this post,
I am thinking about 20's makeup, we are all similar with the typical flapper look bee stung lips eyebrow shapes, etc ..
You do not here too much about every day makeup or daytime looks was it worn much at all.
How expensive was it ?
Could you buy it department stores,
Who wore it apart from "Flappers"

My 1920's cloche hat

Months ago I send a set of photos to a local milliner of typical 20's cloche hats.

It finally here after 4 month, first in the wrong size and shade (Not the milliners fault the company who blocked it )
I picked it up yesterday and I am so pleased with it I just had to show you all.

photos of the finished hat #2 are below

Very lovely cloche. I used to wear that style because it's a style that's easy to wear and often comes back in style. I never considered how they look on me. Do they generally suit certain face and body types better than others?

I just love the shape of the hat , if it suits I will let others be the judge of that.:D

Just a quick note to say I'm absolutely loving that cloche and your new outfit pics, Paul - that colour combination is stunning, and the cloche looks so warm and comfortable and has a great shape with the brim narrowing in just the right place.

I've been a bit flat out with other things lately, but have made a few vintage purchases lately so will be dropping in more often.

Thank you Mojito, the cloche style is a current one from a London shop just made very large for me, shows that 20's fashion are to some extent timeless.

I cannot wait along with others I sure to see what you have been buying.

Brooksie, you look like pictures of my great-grandmother from the era. The one on the couch made me do a double take, since the only picture I ever saw of her was that exact same pose.

There's a quote I read years and years ago about cloches making girls ugly or how they were only good for the very beautiful. Do any of you remember it? It's one of those things that have driven me nuts for years.

Turned down hose

Ladies: Please pardon the intrusion, but I thought a post I made in the Hats forum might be of interest over here. Any of you flapper types ever attempt this look?

:eek:fftopic:
This is definitely OT, but this picture gives a perfect view of the definitive flapper accouterment, the "turned down hose". The flapper would wear these shiney silk stockings without garters, and instead they would roll the top of the stocking down till it made that nice little roll, then twist the edge into a knot and turn it under. That made the stockings stay up pretty much all day. They would occasionally give them a yank and a twist to get them back up. A very flapper gesture.
My mother's family had a housekeeper in 1922 who remaind a close family friend all her life. I remember Auntie Gail still wearing her stockings in just this way all the way into the early 1960's

Bartender ladies: Please feel free to evict me if you want. ;)

Thanks Red - I've wanted a set for a while, and I'm so pleased with those. Now I'd like to find a pair with the little pocket with rouge to refresh those rouged knees!

Here's my current dream dress - It went for auction at Doyles New York, and I'd love to know who purchased it. I'm sure it went to a good home...the dress belonged to Theda Bara, so it could have been a fashion collector or silent film fan:

Original auction blurb:

Can you imagine what that silver would have looked like with her dark hair and make up?

Gorgeous! Simply Gorgeous! Thanks for posting the photo.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Mojito - I do have a black and white pic of me in this dress but I chose the other one because it showed more of the details such as the pleats and the neck line. Here is the black and white pic.

I know I am going slightly :eek:fftopic: of dresses etc Sorry onto now 1920's fans,

I know the small paper ones wear free giveaways for advertisements and could maybe slipped into a hand bag.

However the large feather one could not be , how were they carried I can only think they were used when you when away for a weekend and stayed in a house carried in a train case or small suit case,

Has any one seen any etiquette about using fans ?

The twenties are my favorite! This is a modern dress I bought a few years ago, and ended up wearing to a fancy dress wedding.

Me and my daughter a few years ago. The hat was from my grandmother's collection.
