Goes to show that traffic isn't a recent phenomenon. I'm amazed at how well pedestrians moved among both horse and horseless carriages. Seems like it would be pretty dangerous crossing the street.

Incredible -- one hundred years isn't so long, yet this way of life seems ancient. First time I've caught an extended glimpse into the early 20th century on film. Eerie. Thanks for posting!

I've never seen this full video. The shorter one, I watched with my dad about a year ago. So fascinating. Wish there was more footage like this.

Tom, in the comments to this video there was a link to more footage from the same time period:

I found this video posted on Boing Boing and was just mesmerized watching 1906 roll by. I'm posting it here because so often we see old photos of men and their hats, but here we see them in motion. I hope you guys enjoy.

Very interesting view of the world in 1906 ! Interesting how you had to almost cross the street to catch a streetcar in the middle of the road ! And all the street urchins hitching rides on the back of wagons and cars :) Got me to wondering where we came up with driving on the right and I found this site which covers "rules of the road" world wide.
