I've gone to bison for the grain and I don't know that I can go back. Just ordered a second bison jacket and even before I knew what I wanted as far as style, I knew it had to be bison.
As has been mentioned already, its definitely stiffness and not weight that (at least for me) determines appropriate situations for a jacket wear. 5oz bison and 5oz steer are different animals entirely (pun totally intended)
Hmm...my wife is almost 2 inches taller than I am and I love it when she puts on heels. Lets just say that when we are "face to face" I get to enjoy the view all that much more :)
It seems as though Aero is shying away from custom work, as it doesnt fit their business model. I have 2 one-off jackets from Aero that were little to no charge above stock to buy, but those days have since passed. I cannot comment on whether they will do minor customization like you ask, but...
Ya, their website isnt great which in my case at least made the personal communication more important and allowed us to get to know each other. That in turn let me know when we were on the same page and it made the design decisions much easier. He did ask for some photos of my jacket to put in...
Glad I could help! I don't think they keep a huge selection on hand, but they are willing to find just about anything you want as long as you don't mind paying more and waiting a bit for them to track it down. I've never worked with a company more interested in custom orders. They are a true...
If you weren't in CA I would tell you to get something with a shearling collar. The smell of smoke never quite comes out of shearling, so you couldnt smoke or be in a smokey place while wearing it. But, being in CA, I guess a shearling collar isnt much use.
Not sure if this is possible, but since you seemed worried about doing a zipper and having the cuffs too long, is it possible you could go with the standard knit cuffs with the leather bottom and have the zipper placed there?
I'm not sure if this would be something that got in the way or...
I think you will find that snaps will become annoying and straps will both probably have enough slip to require constant adjustment. It would drive me batty.I think the best alternative is the button idea, but I have a feeling you'll wish you had either done a zipper or nothing at all.
That is pretty much the same conclusion I came to with the color choice. If I was afraid to beat up a jacket, I might have gone with the brown, as I'd imagine the tobacco will show wear, marks, and any stains more readily. But, I've always thought that leather jackets look better the more worn...
Ya he does. Its really hard to shoot him in the snow. I'm going to play with it a bit though...its too bright I think. If I lower the exposure enough to get him to stand out, everything else is too dark, unless its just him and the background like below:
