Ladies, I just set up an exhibition of my vintage swimwear at Ballarat Trades Hall - for those of you in Australia, it's part of Ballarat's annual Heritage Weekend (in Victoria).
It's open Saturday and Sunday but for those who can't make it, here are some pics of my swimsuits - displayed are...
Hi Johnny,
I'm a seamstress, not a tailor or leather expert but wish to advise that the professional opinion you seek will need to view the garment in person.
For the price point, the only concern I have with the quality of what you received is the sloping pocket - and it would be best to...
Johnny, I'm curious about why you requested such a thin leather? I think the problem is with the material, which is not suitable for a jacket like this - usually a thicker grade of leather is used.
I agree that they haven't done a very good job and you should return it. All the same, I think...
Well done on finding a three piece in your size!
I agree that the trousers should sit slightly higher up and the length could come down a bit - but it needs to be determined after fitting buttons for the braces and perhaps taking out the hips.
Also agree that the suit is '60s. I think...
Sorry to miss you, Binkie....you're quite right. Gertrude street is still a bit, err....interesting. Hope to catch you on another visit? We're near Brunswick Street.

I'm a vintage clothing shop owner, so not only do I work with all kinds of beautiful old clothes I also get to control the environment - which means vintage shop fittings as much as possible. Needless to say that my lovely shop ladies and I always wear vintage to work as well - the more...

I think I know why it's so unusual for the time: I suspect it's an elaborate petticoat, meant to go under a ball gown. Some of the petticoats from this era are certainly beautiful enough to be worn as gowns as their own right, and they have the same quality and...
Sorry to miss you when you popped in - I haven't been able to spend as much time there as I'd like.
I have a perhaps impertinent suggestion regarding the boxy suits - I hope you don't mind, but judging by the coat I suspect you might be going for a larger size that is needed? Have you tried...
Of course! As mentioned above, we have around 30 suits from the 30s to the 70s. Most are bespoke and we have at least three or four from the 40s and half a dozen (at least) from the '50s. If you'd like to call the shop during trading hours, we can let you know about specifics like sizes. All are...
We certainly do! They're very popular - currently we have two or three, in size 10 and 12. I've also got another tweed one, which needs to be drycleaned but will be available soon - I think that's about a size 12 or 14. If you'd like to know more, please call the shop during trading hours...
