Why is my crown so soft?

Thanks a lot for all the brilliant answers. I have send out a few emails to some hat makers in my country to see, if they can help me with the process of steaming it into a uniform shape.

Why is my crown so soft?

Hi, I have bought a vintage Dobbs fedora and it feels a little different from the other hats I have handled. The brim is not stiff. You can kind of snap it up or down. I have seen this before, but the crown is also very soft and you can press creases in the crown with your fingers. My...

    Borsalino Georgio?

Hi, I have been looking at this Borsalino Georgio hat with interest, but I can't seem to find anything useful on the particular model. Does anyone know anything about this model? It seems there is one called Giorgio, but the brim on that seem much larger than 55 mm. (1 1/8'')?

Advice on leather boots for colder scandinavian climate

Thanks, I see from your location that where you are, chances are, it's quite a bit more chilly than we have it ;-). One of the reasons I ask is because the store are overwhelmed with boots that are fur lined in some way or the other. My only reference to my own footwear is my fishing boots...

What colour for my first fedora?

Well yes, that looks pretty close. It's listed as gray though, but your right, judging from the photos is hard to see if it is in fact taupe. Thanks

What colour for my first fedora?

Can anyone see from the photo, what model the hat is? I have search for Borsalino hats, buts they seem to make quite a few models? Or if it's hand made, it might not even be a certain model?

What colour for my first fedora?

Thanks, that sounds simple. I'll google it for some more info, but how do you hold the hat for shaping the front of the brim for example? Do you hold it by the crown or upside down? And do you steam only the very front of the brim, or a larger area around the front?

What colour for my first fedora?

I appeeciate your comments. Makes the choice much easier ;-). I completely see the idea of a grey one for my first. I'm not fond of the black band on grey hat. It carries too many connotations for me. But grey on grey looks sharp. Rearding quality I have been introduced to a grey Borsalino...

What colour for my first fedora?

I've been inspired, partly by my dad, to try and get myself a "classic" hat and give hat wearing a go. I'm sure you get this question a lot, but I'm in doubt about what way to go. I live in a country and an area where there is no retailers who has any great number of hats that you can try...
