    The Decaying Evolution of Education...

I wasn't disagreeing with your premise that philosophers and ethicists could or should have a role in medical ethics or the legal system or what have you, only your assertion that they could absolutely do so without bias. Your counter about the status quo is arguing a point I have not advanced...

An Affair to Remember (The Movie and The Loss of Depth in Modern Romance Film)

I would argue that the happy ending is more a demand of the audience than of the film makers. People just tend to feel an unhappy ending is an unfinished one, and therefore, an unsatisfying one. I think *that* says just as much about the human condition as any particular scripted theme.

    The Decaying Evolution of Education...

I believe that's what you philosophers call a "straw man". I'm not suggesting scholarly opinion has no role, nor that lobbyists, politicians, and mega corps are infallible or even preferable. Only that everyone has bias.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Somewhere between 13 and 57 is what I'm told.

Just do the 49 that you know, and the empty spot left will be Connecticut.

    Rock & Roll Oldsters

I saw a picture of Sammy Hagar on something the other day. He still looks and sounds pretty darn good for being 68.

    The Decaying Evolution of Education...

Well said. With respect to those questions that would require scholarly thought, I don't agree that said scholars can uniformly detach their perspective from their own views on what they think should be the answers.

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

You'd have to convince me that GMOs do not increase crop yield, mature faster, are more drought tolerant, more disease resistant, capable of growing in previously unsuitable conditions, etc before I'd buy that it doesn't add up to more quantity.

    This or That

Hmmm...that's a tough one, as they are two of my favorite places to eat. But...I'm not a huge fan of the SF cable cars, and I'm a Gulf Coast kind of guy...so I'd say New Orleans Street Car. Have we done bourbon or scotch?

If a US President wore hats again, what would he wear and how would it effect hat sales?

The last American President I can think of who wore hats routinely as a matter of dress, and not just while "at the ranch" was Harry Truman.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Can't remember if it was brought up in the previous 100+ pages, but "crackerjack", meaning something of high quality. My grandmother used it all the time, describing everything from Hank Greenberg to (very rarely) the job I did scrubbing her window awnings.

If a US President wore hats again, what would he wear and how would it effect hat sales?

It's interesting how dress is used by the President (perhaps your PM, I'm not sure) to convey whatever vibe he think the people want at the time. Most of the time, in the Oval Office, when speechifying, what have you, it's a typical conservative dark business suit and either red or blue tie...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

My dad also used to say "the best thing you can do is..." It might be "...go to your room", or maybe "...shut your trap". My sister once replied "yeah, well what's the next best thing?" Once.

If a US President wore hats again, what would he wear and how would it effect hat sales?

It's not just hats, but fashion in general. People want the President to dress well, but not too well. He should be seen as a representative of the "common man", and any sign of what would be considered elitism would be frowned upon these days. For example, the aforementioned President...
