I wasn't disagreeing with your premise that philosophers and ethicists could or should have a role in medical ethics or the legal system or what have you, only your assertion that they could absolutely do so without bias. Your counter about the status quo is arguing a point I have not advanced...
I would argue that the happy ending is more a demand of the audience than of the film makers. People just tend to feel an unhappy ending is an unfinished one, and therefore, an unsatisfying one. I think *that* says just as much about the human condition as any particular scripted theme.
I believe that's what you philosophers call a "straw man".

Well said. With respect to those questions that would require scholarly thought, I don't agree that said scholars can uniformly detach their perspective from their own views on what they think should be the answers.
You'd have to convince me that GMOs do not increase crop yield, mature faster, are more drought tolerant, more disease resistant, capable of growing in previously unsuitable conditions, etc before I'd buy that it doesn't add up to more quantity.
Hmmm...that's a tough one, as they are two of my favorite places to eat. But...I'm not a huge fan of the SF cable cars, and I'm a Gulf Coast kind of guy...so I'd say New Orleans Street Car.
