    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

Speaking of not aging...I was recently amazed to be reminded that Cicely Tyson will be 92 in December:

    What happened to small towns?

There is quite a bit of this out there. I've known many residents of long-established communities who simply wished to be able to keep it that, a close-knit working class neighborhood, but simply can't afford to pay the ever escalating property taxes. Their voting down tax increases has...

BBQ Grills, and more specifically, Kamados

I've been cooking with gas for nearly 30 years, and can honestly say that I've never once tasted it in my food. Perhaps my taste buds just aren't that sophisticated, but I'd like to think I have a pretty good palate for grilling/BBQ. Perhaps it's because I think 400 degrees on the grill just...

BBQ Grills, and more specifically, Kamados

I never fire up the charcoal grill without using a full bed of coals, even if I'm just doing a burger or two. I think you have to have the heat up, whether it's one burger or 12 steaks. I cook with the heat rocket engine hot, and rationing the coals based on the amount of meat just doesn't do...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

"Now who can argue with that?...Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age." - Olson Johnson

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I'd make it a requirement for everyone to work at least some period of time in a service job. The only thing worse than management who doesn't have to deal with the public is the public itself.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

My understanding is that the one of the outcomes of the 06 case was that Apple Corp (The Beatles) owned all rights to distribute music under the "Apple" name. That meant when Apple Computer wanted to create iTunes, an online music distribution program, they had to license it from Apple Corp.

I think beginning next year they can start reclaiming their publishing rights, so they'll have something to live on in their old age.

This is exactly what we called a "drive in". You parked, walked up to the window to get your steak finger basket or cheeseburger. And while we were in high school, you went back to your car to sit on the hood while you ate and watched the girls go by. You didn't have car hop service. Sonic...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

A lot of people don't know that the trademark "Apple" is owned by The Beatles for many things musical and electronic and Apple Computers has had to pay them to license many things. For example, Apple Computer had to pay them something like $600MM to be allowed to create iTunes.

You can get wild caught fresh shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico around here. I'm surprised you can't get it in your neighborhood, though it may be previously frozen.

Something that ticks me off...people who use "summer" as a verb. Right up there with people who don't know how to use adverbs and say things like "drive safe".

It's the same way around here for refinery and chemical plant workers who work night shifts. They get off work at 6:00am, and they're ready for some cold suds. There are icehouse all along the roads leading out of that area and they're packed at 07:30. Weekdays of course. In Texas, you can't...

Somewhere there's a joke that's punch line ends with something about "Episcopalians not recognizing the Pope and Baptists not recognizing each other in the liquor store". I wish I could remember it.

    What happened to small towns?

Funny story about dividing up stuff: My brother in law's grandmother was getting older, and she lived in a big Victorian house, right in the middle of town. She had lots of stuff. So she decided she didn't want anyone fighting over it, so she put a piece of masking tape on everything and told...
