Yup, I think that's right.
Even Brooks started making some less well-designed jackets after the 60s. They pop up on eBay. Fortunately, plenty of the earlier classic jackets can still be found on the 'bay and often for a bargain price. All or most are steerhide but they're wonderful jackets...
This is what I think of when I think of a cafe racer. And regardless of true origins, I always think of vintage Buco, Brimaco and, especially, Brooks jackets when I think of cafe racers. This is likely because a 60s Brooks was my own first leather jacket and is still a personal favorite for...
Peacoat, any chance you could post some pictures of your two JL jackets?
I live very close to JL (talked about my visit in another thread) and will likely get a jacket made by them someday soon.
That is a great, comfortable looking fit. Personally, the sleeves don't look a bit too short to my eye and I lean toward longer sleeves. You must be very pleased with the entire experience (super well-fitting jacket at bargain price with no wait-time.)
Out of curiosity, is the collar detachable?
It really shouldn't be too hard to understand why people on a clothing forum might want to hear about the pros, cons, and methods for tweaking a leather jacket (or any other garment) for sizing. And needing to do so doesn't necessarily imply that somebody messed up. People's bodies change...
The jacket looks outstanding!
The stuff about it needing to feel very tight to achieve that look is the deal-breaker for me. Looks so nice, but I can't stand tight gear.
Ha, yeah, your wallet will thank you for that timely reflection.
Since Self Edge and IH are being mentioned, it makes sense for the sake of completeness to mention the other great source for denim in North America: Blue in Green (akd BIG) in New York. Don't want to mislead anyone into...
Agreed, NorCal is a wonderful place to wear jackets.
Deacon, there's an active thread on aero's mid-weight oil pull that has some good information and excellent pictures of jackets made in that leather. You might want to check it out as you put your order together.
I think good advice is being given in terms of Iron Heart. Their standard 634s model (21oz) is a great jean to start with precisely because of the lack of care needed. All you need to do is get the size that works best for you and wear them. Stiffness is relative when it comes to raw denim...
I'd like to add a few thoughts to my original posting above. First, I want to make it clear that while I did visit the shop, stayed a while, talked people, handled (and tried on) several jackets, I myself don't own a JL jacket. Others have actually gone through the process of customizing JL...
FFTT, your Johnsons jacket is one of the best fitting jackets I've seen.
I'm not sure you've had the chance to try on a test fit m-200 L but I think you'll like it. Someone already mentioned that the M-200 looked a bit like a neat-fitting highwayman. The m-200 L, even more so. Their stock...
Okay, stopped by the shop today.
I don't have time now to write a long and useful summary of my visit, but I'll confirm what others have said about the outstanding customer service. I worked mostly with Craig and talked a bit with Alan. Great, great guys. Happy to answer questions and...
I take that as excellent news.
I've read enough posts saying 'Aero's mwhh is good but nothing special - go with the fqhh!' that I was at a loss to find a medium-weight leather that aged really well. But the hide on your jacket is terrific. I will very likely be getting a jacket made up in...
