My backyard hill Billy approach of leveling the pH would be using a shower gel for sensitive skin (pH 5.5) synthetic boot oil and distilled water to make a thin deeply penetrating emulsified water oil mixture.
I don't think the internet theorie is correct.
What I learned about leather is that it is pH sensitive and raw conditioners are not good .
Natural oils will rot and oxidise which will destroys the leather. Leather cleaners and oils with the wrong pH can throw of the pH of the leather so much...
So far I would say that the 22mm Irvin fleece is not as dense as the ones I had from noble house which were always way to warm even with a t shirt in -5 degree Celsius .
The jacket is still warm but the curly hairs make it look denser .
Which make it more practical since you don't sweat like a...
Just some bad snapshots via video .
Love the Irvin. They adjusted the russet brown Steerhide and now it is a shade darker than before .I went with my bare chest measurement 85cm and went one size up .
The fur is a pale brown I think a little bit caramel .The napalan surface is dark brown ...
I just ordered one too with russet trim .I have a 85cm chest so I should order a 32 but it went with a 36 .A Irvin should fit slightly large .
These leathers are napalan/double sided leathers so the suede has been finished to a smooth surface .The surface will deteriorate over time .Some faster...
Nice happy to see you guys experimenting with fat liqouring the CHL .I saw a video about making cxl and that they add soft oils to soften after hot stuffing with hard wax .
Maybe we should ask shawn to increase the soft oil content .
I guess the CHL has a 13% fat content to make it stiffer ...
Those stiff leathers are a complete nightmare to people that normally work with glove leathers or originally come from fabric sewing companies .The angle of attack is different because you cannot bunch the material or fold it away. The goat and steer can be sewn like a dense fabric.
I am amazed...
Does someone has a good experience with the quilted winter lining? I want to make a black CHL coat but I don't know if one layer of quilting is enough .I will add a additional layer of 500gsm fabric on top of the quilted lining to hide that in my opinion ugly stuff (no offense).
Thanks for any...
I can get more info on cidu if you want .My buddy from China knows them :) .
He is a Brandagent and is my connection for a custom bootmaker that accepts orders like Shawn .
He said cidu are some young guys that just do what they want lol .
I will post pictures of my russet steer Cossack later .It gets some character but It takes time .The sleeves have an early taper on that pattern so it requires a more intensive break in or wider sleeves in general .
The sleeves angle down too much .That's what seems like a problem to me .When I look at a Himmel jacket or other makers the sleeves are almost in line with the shoulder .Just a tad angled down .My Cossack fits great .I love the look .The leather is breaking in and shaping to my body but my only...
Lovely colour .I noticed the same rubbery tendency on the normal russet steer .But I can assure you that it goes away either with use or with a thicker coating of a thin leather oil (not mink oil because that would rot)
My v1 Cossack got tumbled 8h in the dryer on high heat while being wet .Now...
