Latest purchase, as above Weintraub Blue 'Vintage' MA1 in XL, heavy weight which suggests a wool based interlining & moth nips (thankfully few...) wool knits. Made in USA this has Scovill zippers too. Saving this one for the Fall..will need a little darning on those nips but nothing serious :-)
Gentleman a puzzle (for me anyway),
Does anyone know the story with Concord Flight jackets? Are they closely related to Alpha (one and the same?) Jackets branded as Concord come from the same area & look the same (inc 'Vintage' series images). Even the pocket tag with a 'C' looks a dead...
At long last I've located and managed to purchase a 'Vintage' series Alpha L2B in XL. Whilst not the most accurate I am fond of this series & it can sit on the clothes rail alongside the 'Vintage' series MA1 & B15s.
The cut of this jacket is very trim & short in length & only slightly more...
Well folks at long last I've managed a trip to ELC in deepest, darkest Devon, tried a couple of D1's on, gone for the XL and received it in the post this morning. What a quality jacket it is IMHO & a lovely bit of shearling.
The outer is a rich dark brown with plenty of character, the...
Down to ELC (Eastman) tomorrow for my D1 fitting, it's taken 18 months to get to this point :) I have a vintage Bakelite dice zipper pull ready to put on it when it arrives.
Went up to Cambridge today for work on the turbo on my SAAB Classic, the nice people at the SAAB specialists dropped...
Just received this Ground Crew L2B Alpha 1979 XL that I purchased from a member of the VLJ Forum. Have some NOS USAF knits on the way to replace the current snagged ones. Lovely jacket. :)
Alpha N2B Flying Jacket..Service Issue 1993 has just arrived. It's in XL size and in great good used condition. Weight is nice and light, the synthetic fur on the hood is a quite blinding white...a good spring 'throw on' jacket. I was never a big fan but am developing a soft spot for the N2B
The postman has recently delivered this mint jacket to me:
This Nylon Green XL L2B USAF Flight Jacket was made available to purchase by the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) exclusively for persons who have flown in the B17 Flying Fortress 'Aluminum Overcast'. The jacket carries the...
Just received this beauty today (compliments the sage one I picked up last year). Alpha USA 'Replica' MA1 Flying Jacket in dark (midnight) blue. Great jacket, heavy but not too much so, the quality is superb IMHO. The shell appears a decent thick nylon, wool knits, has a wool / cotton / nylon...
A recent score of mine & just back from a bit of light restorative work, an Alpha 'Replica' series N2B in dark blue (darker than photo...think midnight). I love this jacket, heavy but not too much so, the quality is superb IMHO. The shell appears a decent thick nylon, wool knits, has a wool /...
I have just come to realize that I have an addiction to nylon (not that type :o) & pulled the trigger on two jackets last night:
First one was a mint Spiewak L2B (the 'Aluminum Overcast' tribute version) in sage, XL.
After telling myself I wouldn't :(, I then proceeded to enter the...
Gentleman,
Has anyone ever come across military issue N2Bs in Black? Have found an Alpha N2B with a DSA date of 1975, wool / cotton mix lining in Black. Real? or something later with an early label sewn in? E-Bay auction score tonight that should arrive later this week.
Purchased these, supposedly NOS 1960's night driving glasses this week. Vendor states that they have come from NOS when an opticians had a clear out (or similar situation). Anybody come across them before? Night driving glasses? Can find link if anyone else is interested, sounds like there were...
Thrilled with this purchase: 1980 Bi Swing Back CWU 36 - P Summer Flight Jacket. Made by Centre MFG Co in XL. This is more fitted than my later CWU's & the material is softer. The Bi swing 'action back' allows great movement. Shell and knits are in good shape for their age. :)
Just received this Propper contract CWU 45 Nomex jacket with hood. This is a nice roomy contract & great for current UK weather..but not when it's raining heavily. Hood is attached by buttons sewn onto collar of jacket. Jacket dates from 2000 & the hood is an 87 Alpha.
Recent purchase from e-bay which claims to be a WW2 parachute silk scarf made a by company that unpicked old 1940's silk parachutes & made motoring scarfs out of them. Appears like it may well be genuine. Anyone come across these before?
After some searching (every day), I have successfully bid on the Bay for a Centre MFG CO CWU 36-P (XL) with a Bi-swing back. Just got to wait for it to wing it's way from the USA. :)
Thank you Atticus for your help in trawling for a Bi - Swing.
Hope it fits when it arrives.
Latest E-bay score which should be with me by mid-week (hope it fits). Another 50's MA1 Replica (nylon lining as well as shell). Anyone come across HockAy jackets before?
Hello Gents,
A colleague at work has just made a winter/fall purchase off of the bay by way of a charcoal grey leather single breasted trench coat with what appears to be a button in rabbit fur lining. I tried said jacket on today & have never worn anything so heavy...must have been twice the...
I am considering purchasing an early Bi-swing back CWU nomex flight jacket. I expect it will cost me somewhat more than the later jackets. If you own or have owned one Gentleman..how comfortable are they? All feedback very gratefully received.
