Glad to see modifying Akubras being discussed. I was thinking about doing the same thing to a used one I am awaiting shipment of. It was bashed unrecognizable, and I'm not even sure the seller knew what they had, but it was offered at a great price and I figured I'd see what I could do with it.
Not German or Austrian, but I believe, Swiss - is anyone familiar with a hatmaker, Eichenberger. I am awaiting a purchase of one from Zurich and have seen a few posts on the Lounge about the brand over the years without anyone seeming to have any information about the brand itself. It had been...
How's this for a victory? Browsing one of my favorite resale shops online, I come across 2 separate listings with generic black fedoras photos attached for a new "Black Borsalino Bucket Hat - 7 1/8", my size, for $26.99. Curious as to what they describe as a "bucket hat" by Borsalino could be...
When you find one this nice, you just have to share. Almost perfect condition, open crown, I believe manufactured under the Mr, Disney brand by Lee (who were licensed to make Cavanagh Edges (called Edgelee), and owned Mr. Disney) with a 2 1/4 inch brim.

Crazy story. On January 24th, I placed an order with Agnoulita Hats with some credit I had, in the hopes of trying out a new style I'd never worn. I liked his display of it, made a few modifications and placed the order. It arrived today.
RIP Popeye Doyle.
Always a good time for Jeff Tweedy and his Stetson. For those with a subscription - https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/05/16/jeff-tweedy-gets-his-hat-back
Really looking like wear. Considering it's originally from a Brooklyn hat store catering to Orthodox Jews, it was probably heavily worn, perhaps even every day. It is a gorgeous wide-brimmed hat. I'll post fuller pics later.
Leather sweatbands will somewhat shrink down to conform to your head. As far as putting in reducers vs. stretching, I think the conventional wisdom imparted by most experts is always put in reducers if you have a choice. Stretching is only for hats you already own and don't have a choice in...
Thanks, yeah I have tried the steaming and brushing (and steaming and brushing some more). I am thinking it is a worn spot of some kind (there are actually 2, one on either side of center). I am just trying to determine if it's repairable.
This photo shows slight damage on the front brim of a 2002 Borsalino. It is similar to (but I can't verify) a Rosati model. I'm not sure what this would have been called back then, it was made for Ferster Hatters, similar to how Rosati was for Bencraft. I think this is a worn spot that seems to...
Hello everyone,
I am Jeff, looong-time lurker, finally a joiner. I have been wearing and owning hats for the past 35 years (long-time customer of @besdor - who I see no longer posts). After all this time I finally felt that I should look into restoring and refurbishing my old ones and those of...
Literally the exact same as you posted, except these differences. Deciding what I want to do with it now. Leave open crown or bash away? Decisions, decisions.
Also, interesting fact I found, Portis is not the family's original name. It was changed to Portis by the brothers' father when he...
