Bank on Banks
I usually get my suits at Brooks but have to say the looks of the Banks suits are fine for workaday wear, and at a substantial savings from the Brooks prices. I would think in this economy, many of us Brooks customers will be giving Jos. Banks another look for our everyday suits.
Hat Height-Size IS everything
I have a vintage 5 1/2 " tall silk plush topper. What would be the earliest time period hats of this crown height would have been worn?
Mad Hatter
Welcome to the Lounge.
It would help to see what you look like, age, shape of face. And, where would you wear it? To work in a bank, retailing, an art studio?
Most Lounge members are smarter than I am about hats, fashion and who-knows what, but I would suggest saving money on...
Warhorse didn't finish
I had some email communication with the man (I believe it is operated by a couple) about two officer uniforms a couple of years ago. I gave him the go-ahead and never, ever heard from him again, despite repeated emails.
As for the shoes, What Price Glory? would be safe.

paper, cloth, celluloid, studs at great prices and I can vouch for delivery, though not always fast. They do answer emails. Wonderful, reasonably priced stuff.
Collared
I like the second link's collars but this source has very good prices, cloth, celluloid and paper collars and studs:

Flat Top
Got my flat top tuned up today, high and tight. The barber slathered on the pink "Butch Wax" that's been around since the '50s. Same smell I remember way back when.
The Plush Life
I don't know. He had a small supply of original plush when I last ordered my hat and I believe he now uses a synthetic. You can contact him through the website above. He evidently does not have direct internet access and you must commission the hat through Stan Boyle at "History...
Top of the morning
I haven't had the temerity to even slightly disassemble it, but from the feel and weight, I believe John uses a very stiff buckram or pasteboard base for the hat. These are VERY solid, especially the brim, which only the slightly padded leather sweatband makes comfortable...
Frumpy trousers
Anyway, from the posts, we must assume the would-be well dressed business gent of the pre-staypressed wool era, having been soaked below the hem of his raincoat on the stormy day, had to sit the remainder of his day in trousers baggy and creaseless below the knees, unless he...
Is that you, Senator?
Tomasso: I know this is a changing room of last resort. I have done it from time to time but I have always felt really strange, hoping no one comes in, which they always do. Superman could manage the phone booth because of his super speed. Me, I'm old and slow and...
