    Morning dress

I don't think Sator is going to change his views any time soon. He has decided, and arguments against will only serve to raise ones blood pressure.

    Morning dress

Making a lounge and making a body coat is not the same. The body coat requires more shaping, more padding, more intricate sewing because of more seams and tight fit, the skirt is tricky to make, &c. A picture of one of Sator's works appears in this thread...

    Wool Weave: Tight or Loose?

Well, most "tropical" cloth is or should be woven slightly loose. I would show you a picture, but i can't find it; it shows a tropical cloth held up against the sunlight so that the "holes" or looseness of the weave can clearly be seen. This is why cotton suits often wear warmer than tropical...

    Antique tailcoat questions

Not all the old prints mention this, and not all photographs agree with the rule. That said, I think it looks better when there is no peeking white vest. As for the problem with the rise; If the trousers are original to the coat, they should have a rise which goes with the waist of the coat. You...

    Morning dress

Considering the fact that the term "pants" stems from the archaic "pantaloons", and that "pants" (U.S. English) is synonymous with (British English) "trousers", then we can say that striped pantaloons are the same things as striped trousers. :)

Just brushed my hat for the first time

It does not really make any difference which way you brush your hat. Most hats are felt, which is not directional unless you make it. You will eventually create a directional nap if you brush your hat only CCW. It is easy to see if your hat has a directional nap or not, you will also spot it if...

FS: Edwardian/20s boots, 1930s suit and more

--Ill have pics of the boots up tomorrow-- I figured it was time for a little spring clean. All of these are items that no longer fit me or (sadly) never fit. Thanks to the useless Norwegian post you have exactly one option for shipping, which will cost you approx. $50 + $2/Kg in Europe...

    J.L. Taylor men's fashion catalog, 1927

824 and 826 are almost certainly clerical dress. That is exactly it! All this talk about faux pas and what is vintage and what is not drives me nuts! That goes for 'contemporary' faux pas as well; these nonsense rules are killing the fun and creativity of fashion. Be a rebel, we need more...

    Formal Wear Primer

Or maybe he is just adventurous? In the 1962 awards for Britain's best dressed he was bashed for the sin of wearing his handkerchief in an "inelegant, american manner" (Folding it perfectly square)

    Wool Weave: Tight or Loose?

Loosely woven cloth will be able to trap more body heat in the air between the fibers, thus it will be warmer. Especially in low-wind conditions. For an outer shell, a tightly woven cloth is desirable, as it shields from wind and rain.

    What are you wearing today??

I like your outfits very much, TTO. It crossed my mind to bring out my white duck trousers today, but alas it is still too cold for that.
