My favourite piece of equipment at the moment is my branding iron with my logo on it. It's taken a bit of trial and error but I'm getting there now I think.
The hat and coat rack is lovely, Dogman.
I use the heat on my electric hat stretcher occasionally but it is fierce and needs to be watched. I've never scorched a sweatband. It's useful for heating up the hat before conforming it. I have a feeling though that it expands when it gets hot, which...
Thank you for your support UK Loungers. I don't know of anyone in the UK making men's hats by hand the traditional way apart from me. I might be wrong, if anyone finds someone I would be delighted to meet them.
It's not such a long way to come B1ggles. Make a weekend of it, lots of lovely...
Thanks for the interest. All a work in progress at the moment. I have been a milliner for many years but changed over to hatting a couple of years ago. I have been collecting vintage equipment, most recently a load of blocks from Battersbys factory in Stockport. I have a conformateur, rounding...
Hi Gareth, are you coming to me? Bloc Hats in Llandeilo? If so I've moved premises, I have a workshop at Chess Menswear in Carmarthen St. (Used to be on Rhosmaen St) I'll be there all day Saturday. Hope to see you then.

However, the hat size scale is different to the one I use. When I...
The sweatbands on this thread are always an inspiration. I am experimenting with sweatband construction on my own hats. I have been sewing the ends together and then covering with braid. But a lot of these vintage sweats seem to be taped together at the join. It's a neat and simple solution but...
On the subject of electric hat stretchers, I use the heat on mine rarely, it is fierce and I'm pretty sure that when it gets hot the metal expands to the extent that the measurements are no longer accurate and it over stretches. Has anyone else noticed that?
