Hope is not a right, and it would be a poor lawyer who argued that there is - as it would be a poor lawyer who used Magna Carta as precedent. They would not be laughed out of court here - they would be thrown out on the end of a tongue lashing from the bench. And he/she wouldn't be laughing...

Yep saw that one CRH. It's not the first stingy Whippet I've seen. Did Stetson release a short-brim version?

Stetson Thingamajig The sun is in my eyes, hence the squint. The hat is my 'almost' stingy (2 inch brim) 1958 Stetson. This was my first vintage hat and I've no idea what model this is but I christened it the 'Trilby'.

No problem Boater. I was just making a joke really. Though it doesn't hurt to be careful when writing something less than favourable in the blogosphere.

Lookin' sharp in both of those Mr Clark. We all seem to have particular hats we prefer to handle the rain. For me, it's the one with the widest brim to keep the rain off my glasses, so my Open Road is ideal. But why is the Christys in particular your rain hat?

I haven't heard of an Akubra Ranchero. Didn't Resistol have a 'Ranchero' at some point? That one looks a little like the Akubra Cowboy, though it's hard to tell from the pic.

I'm fond of that Churchill, Mario! Though with summer approaching it's beaver is a tad warm. So it may be rested for a while. Here's another take on the Springaire

Many thanks Jeff and Daiza. I think our fellow Loungers would agree with you Jeff, but some simply feel that my shaped melon is best complemented by a broader brim. And I do tend to agree with them - most days.

Dare I don the stingy? Yep - forgive me Mr P. It's Casual Friday so I went for a casual lid. In my hunt for a grey fedora I picked up this Stetson Royal Deluxe Springaire stingy. So called I suppose because the lighter felt is good for spring wear (and it is spring here!). The pug is black...

Thanks again Brad. So we are probably looking at something from the first decade or so of Dobb's production (assuming that these boxes became less fanciful with time). The top hat and stovepipe were still popular as business attire at that time, though it seems this gave way to the fedora and...
