Well Lefty - if that's how they were all labelled, then it's not.
But it's Custom V-esque! lol
(and I just re-checked the price under the sweat. It's $10.95 - Inflation!).
If we're talking about a fur felt hat than yep - most of us here change creases quite often. Most recently I changed a cattlemens crease into a teardrop with front pinches. In the old days, hats came with no crease at all (open crown) and the owner had the task of shaping it - and reshaping it -...
Not from where I'm sitting lads - and the lid is sitting in front of me. If I took a photo from the same angle as the ad you'd see what I'm getting at - crease, crown height, brim width, stitched overwelt are all similar. Same price too. Maybe it is; maybe not, but it's the closest Stetson I've...
Thanks again Tony. This one is certainly a quality hat. The maker, Thoroughbred, seems to be a bit of a mystery. I can find nothing about them anywhere - either on Google, here or elsewhere. As I said above, there's no lables or clues under the sweat to indicate where it was made. I assume it's...
That makes perfect sense Tonyb - many thanks for that. I have mistakenly assumed this hat came from the 'Pedigree" maker mentioned briefly in the list of classic hat makers and that 'Thoroughbred' was the model.
I see no evidence of it being cut down (not that I'd be expert in picking up the...
Mine is 7 1/4 CRH....but it likes it here in Australia and it fits me just perfect!
But....if you see any other fine 7 1/4 lids around, just let me know....for research purposes only you understand....;)
Yep Aureliano - it's a fine and handy lid alright. I've not seen one as easily rolled up and recreased as this one.
I stumbled upon mine by accident and nobody seems to have even heard of this model, so I'm guessing it was short-lived.
So I've no idea where to get one.
The Akubra Whippet is another example of Akubra hanging onto a Stetson name after the licence to make Stetson Whippets expired in the 90's. Unfortunately (IMHO) Akubra decided the Whippet design needed cutting down to stingy proportions.
So to answer your question, Cookie - Akubra once made...
Pedigreed Thoroughbred
This dusty brown Pedigreed needs another clean but I thought I'd post it in the meantime.
We don't seem to know much about Pedigree hats and this one contains no lables (other than the logos) to assist with information. What I can say is that the brand name appears to...
Naptha bath process
Righto you expert naptha hat bathers - what's the process you use for doing this?
What do you do before and after you drop your precious vintage lid in the bucket of chemicals? Or is it as simple as 1. Fill bucket with naptha 2. drop in lid and leave for ???hours 3. Pull...
I have lots of success with my stretcher. I've mentioned elsewhere the Akubra Le Baron that I successfully stretched a good four sizes and can wear it comfortably today. Most stretches are only up one size, and others are more of an anti-shrinkage strategy. But all-in-all it's worked well for...
