Yep that Mallory is a lesson in the things that happen by accident. I fished it out of the Bay for a mere $15 only because it was advertised as 'Gray' (I think that all up with postage Down Under it came to just a tad over US$30 - a bargain, but I still wouldn't have bought it if I'd known is...
Back in casual with Dunn & Co
I picked up this Dunn and Co thin ribboned trilby recently. I've no idea of its age but I'm thinking late 40's -50's from the look of the sweat, the style of the lettering, the pleated liner and the use of the (now very brown) oil cloth on the lining. I think I'll...
I reckon they're much the same hat CRH - except for the brim width of course. Both are among Akubras oldest styles. Everyone's country grand dad (and great grand dad) owned a squatter - and a stylemaster for headin' to town.
Ye Gods chaps! How come no one mentioned "Reach for the Sky" - the Douglas Bader story?! Wonderful film with Kenneth More playing Sir Douglas.
For those of you who don't know of the British Spitfire and Hurricane ace - who continued to fly after losing both legs in a flying accident in 1931...
Ta Mario - I always value your .02.
As you'll see in the Akubra Overload thread, I'm still playing with the bash. I may try a centre dent to raise the crown a tad. It's a lovely lid to wear - and a very old Akubra style. Almost an Aussie icon is the Squatter. I like the gunmetal grey colour...
Akubra Squatter - the wide-brimmed Stylemaster
This Squatter in Superfine felt arrived earlier in the week and I've been playing around with the bash. Currently it has a teardrop, but I'm thinking I'd like the crown a tad taller and so may try a centre dent.
It's not too old, though it still...
Yep, normally I'd agree with taupe Mario. it's just much darker than any taupe I've ever seen. I think it's a smokey brown - but henceforth we can christen it as 'Taupe-with-a-tan!'
Yep Mario my friend - the Mallory remains a firm favourite in my stable. It's still the most comfortable hat I own - something to do with that extra wide, soft sweatband I guess. Now if only I can figure out what colour it is! [huh]
Wormser
This is the first Wormser hatbox I've seen and I picked it up cheaply (before postage was added anyway!). It's not in the best condition but I'm guessing it's probably 40's or before, so we can forgive some condition issues. Now my Wormser Homburg (that I'm still working up the courage...
The Return of Ephraim Tutt
At last Comrades and Compadres! My internet is fixed after nearly 3 weeks without access. It took 'em this long to figure out that the problem was caused by some interference from another line somewhere back down the line.
Anyways....to catch up...here's the last...
