Thanks CV - you must have better eyes than me. A 1940's Stratoliner for $23.71 + postage ($39.56 all up in Aussie $$ incl postage) was quite a bargain then. Sweet.
Stratoliner goes cheap
Any idea why I was able to pick this one up so cheap? Even at 6 7/8 it's a steal.
Can't quite make out how old it is - Is that the 50's logo?

Fantastico as always Torps! I've got a beautifully made early 1960's Shudde Bros Open Road Silverbelly in mint condition - but I just can't get it to look as comfortable on my melon as yours does on you.
Nice try Salty but to get the accent right you've gotta kinda run it all together like this - GOODONYAMAAYTE!!
One of the funny things about weight loss is that my size 58s are now pretty much all a bit loose. I never thought I was a fathead - but apparently we accumulate spare lard even on top!
From England to Americana
The weekend saw me flat cappin' with this English Dunn & Co "Alderney Super".
I've had this Knox "Americana" for a while but it never looked quite right. Somehow, now that I'm carrying less weight, it looks ok - so I wore it for the first time out and about today.
Ta CG. This one was my very first vintage hat and it started my passion. It came in its box with a December 1958 receipt. It's a charcoal grey Stetson with an embroidered pug and no model name. The brim is 2" so not quite, though almost, a stingy and it is a very versatile lid working equally...
Up on the top shelf in City Hatters Melbourne...
While back in Melbourne a couple of weeks back I paid a pilgrimage to the 100 year old City Hatters. Up on the top shelf I found this collection of Christy's boxes and a 1940's Fayrefield (which I'd photographed on a previous visit)...
Spring has sprung Down Under....
Headed off to West End today for a festival and lunch at the Greek Taverna. Being an arty part of town, I had to dress for the occasion and the 1950's Stetson fitted the bill.
Thanks Elvis - Rosie took great pains to get the dimensions right.
You're in Sydney aren't you? You need to pop down to Rosie's studio in Newtown and have one made for you. She's a gem!
Fayrefield Hats 1940's
This is a rare one found recently behind some shelves in Melbourne's 100 year old City Hatters (a must-visit shop for hat lovers visiting Melbourne). The box contained this pristine top-shelf Homburg and the receipt - all sitting ready for collecting during WWII, and...
Thanks Mario & fellow Aussie, Binkie.
Yes I'm feeling relaxed Mario. It's a brilliant, sunny and cool Brisbane winter's day today. I spent the afternoon wandering through the Qld Gallery of Modern Art wearing another work of art on my head.
What could be more relaxing than that?!
