Wow. I know this place has grown so much since I've been here, but even 20k seems staggering.
It's evident that the success of this board relies in part on the excellent job our bartenders do in monitoring and assisting our discussions, and making this a safe and fun place to share our...
I am familiar with the differences in weave count and cost, as well as the two main varieties of Panama hat (Montecristi and Cuenca) but for those of you who have the finer weave counts, say 300-1000+, could you tell me how they feel in the hand?
Specifically, are they sturdier than the lower...
It can work in theory, but you need to be a strong on your own to begin with. If you're the kind of person that naturally needs alot of people around you and you find that you're very much social, I think it would be difficult.
On the other hand, if you're comfortable sitting at home 6 days a...
Oh, I quit (all too soon) looking for agents for The Bunny King. I'll work on that another time. I'm no business man, I like to write. So back to writing.
I've finally started editing Among the Damned, and I've returned to writing The Fawney Rig. So far so good I guess. Unfortunately, I've...
I know I'm typing something wrong in the search, but didn't we have a thread with step-by-step instructions for handwashing wool suit jackets? Maybe a year ago, or so?
Anyway, as most have said, yes, you can wash linen by hand.
1. Make sure to dry it in the sun to keep it white.
2. Don't...
Yes, this typically takes place during the summer months. Wearing a suit and hat in Des Moines is more than some people can stand. Thus, my picture is taking about 3 times a year, typically downtown.
Although I don't disagree with this entirely, I believe one could make due. Certainly, there would be a struggle to find living accomodations, or nightly meals, but a resourceful individual could probably work wonders.
As long as you could secure some kind of employment, your odds of survival...
I've been pretty vocal in the past.
No cellular phone. (I don't even answer my homephone :p)
No Facebook
No tattoos/piercings (which is a must have for my generation for some reason)
I buy everyday clothes based on price and utility, not for looks or labels. I purchase dress clothing...
Don't mean to sound like a big poop, but I think any one of us could survive in those days. A great ratio of humanity currently survives on even less, so I think we could all swing it.
Away from people.
I've considered Montana and Wyoming for their beautiful country and resources, as well as their conspicuous lack of population. If I had the money to move, I would have the money to occassionally vacation in Chicago and Seattle. Otherwise, give me the open country, a rifle...
Perhaps we're brothers in arms, Tom.
Used to be every concert I went to, or wedding, or darn near anywhere that had music playing, some guy would yell Freebird. Unfortunately (or otherwise), this obnoxious addition began to fade from fad.
So I took up the reigns. And yes, I sometimes even...
Although I've never seen the movie, I bet Cider House Rules was a far better film - the book was one of few that I simply could not get through, regardless of my best attempts. It bored me to tears.
I guess what I'm wondering is why can't a parade plow down the street without trampling children?
You're right, it may not just be one or two generations at fault - maybe it's society as a whole? And if that's the answer, can we shift blame to a particular generation for where we are now?
Alright, here's an issue I'd like to take up. It's a local news story.
Des Moines police: St. Paddy's Day parade needs to improve safety
Basically, the host of our annual St. Patrick's parade may have to quadruple costs in order to have better crowd control because lazy, ignorant parents...
