Flicka and Pompidou,
I agree with you both; I'm happy in a society that allows me to dress as I like. But shouldn't there ever be a time when one wears a "uniform" of sorts to an event? Or at least something a person could say "shows respect"?
Let's take a professional sporting event as...
Ah, but he was not a celebrity. I hate to be pedantic, but this man was, perhaps, a celebrity among a few socialites, but certainly not someone who based their professional career on putting their face (book, voice, music, etc) into the public media for consumption.
An author such as Truman...
Noir, by "biggest", I'm sure you mean, "most successful with highest yield", right? Certainly, there are a number of Madoff's with varying degrees of success. On the other hand, do you suppose we could count on two hands how many knife weilding drug addicts walk the streets looking to roll...
I wondered aloud, "And you called him your friend?" I would think good manners (to say the least!) would dictate this journalist to leave sleeping dogs lie.
Precisely. I don't think she was lying, nor do I think this gentleman was lying. The word "lying" has connotations that I don't think fit this story. A similarly, I don't think the word "fantasy" applies.
So who were these people? Whoever they wanted to be; and why not? Especially this...
RLK, I can't see the scan very well, but at the bottom right of the second page, is that a sewn hat; i.e. made of cloth, like what we can find today at Wal-Mart? Or is that truly fur felt? It seems like $0.69 for a fur felt hat, even in '38, would be considerably cheap. Compared to the other...
Sorry for the delay fella's! I haven't been hooked to the internet with enough time to get these next two up. In these next two scans, we see the same theme repeated - SB peak lapel jackets, DB shawl lapel vests. I'm beginning to wonder if the SB vests were typically left without lapels, and the...
This can be arranged. Don't tempt me, I'm serious. I could have pictures posted sooner than you think. ;)
(You gotta name your price, though. Like Scotty said, I'm broke. lol)
Mmm...my favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Nothing says "nice evening out" like sweatpants, crocs, a mustard-stained undershirt and deep fried Mars bars for the missus and I!
:essen:
A little bit of both. You have your different finishes and your different felts.
A wool felt is typically a little scratchier and feels lighter in the hand. However, the Stetson Cashmere hats are wool and they're quite soft. Same goes for some fur felts. You can find cheap rabbit fur felts...
Aha! Perfect!

I'm a little late into this fray...
I used to collect Punisher comics years ago. I have a pretty massive collection, in fact. I stopped collecting about 8-9 years ago just after the kick off of the new series.
I have every self-titled comic (Punisher, War Zone, War Journal, Armory), every...
You're not weird! Or wait...maybe you are...I guess that would mean I was weird, too. Which I am. So...
(I wish it was 15C and raining all day, everyday. But what do I know?)
Well...AE doesn't have to.
I hate to say it but you could put your used AE's on eBay and still make more money than two pairs of new Florsheims.
On the other hand, I purchased a new Veblen in bone a year ago and I'm happy with them. They're well made, look good, durable. They're not AE, or...
Found a scan (not mine) from a 1937 Sears Xmas catalog. This specifies "DK Oxford gray, gray and tan" for the colors and sizes "6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Order same size as shoe". Also states you had the option of "All wool felt", or "Wool felt with leather binding". Bottom left of items, Letter N:
This is the only scan I could find right now. I'm still scanning and will post anything else I find.
Two things: First, most of the scans I do have are SB jackets with SB vest and the vests are cut high with no lapels. Second, look down at the bottom left - you'll see the semi-formal wear with...
