They're small. You mash 'em up and spread the paste onto the food. Or, if the food itself is sticky and pasty (like rice balls or mashed potatoes), you can stick the insects right into it.

... but braces aren't so much fun when you have to sit on (or crouch over?) the 'loo in a public W.C. (restroom). The brace straps tend to fall onto the dirty floor.

In Costa Rica, there are some small insects that, eaten raw, taste just like black pepper. (Yes, I tried a live one.) They make a good seasoning if real pepper isn't handy.
