Speaking of Bison....
30 years ago when I was stationed aboard Camp Pendleton CA my unit was involved in a training exercise that involved taking a long stroll over many of the base's lovely sun drenched hills. We ended up with our bivouac in the scenic Case Springs area. Across the valley from...
Renault,
The main reason that doe ended up at the fire house was my wife (and daughters) could not bring themselves to eat "bambi", even though I told them that bambi was a buck not a doe. They did not appreciate my humor.
These days the wife is amenable to wild game but I'm afraid I don't...
Pineapple shrimp, coconut shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew.....
Yep, what to do with all that meat. In my case a good sized white tail doe ended up in the freezer at my fire house. We had an organized mess (like most fire stations) and it was put to good use. It did get to be a bit like Forrest...
Ah Sambo's......anyone remember Hobo Joe's? Ate at both of these establishments often when I'd go out on the road with my Dad during my summer vacation.
Dr. Dentons, now that brings back memories. When I was still a wee lad my Mom would say that sometimes. Would also refer to my friends as "Mutt and Jeff". Would refer to doubtful statements as being "malarkey" or say that's a "cock and bull story". My folks were born in the early to mid 1920s...

Ah yes, cock fighting seems to be ingrained in the populations of west Texas and New Mexico. The old timers really love it and I don't see it going away anytime soon.
#844 and #3985.....
Union Pacific still has two steam locomotives in operation, #844 and #3985. Both of these remained in regular service til the late 1950's. Now they travel the country for displays or special charters. I saw 844 a few years ago when it stopped in El Paso, TX. Very impressive...
M1 & M2 stocks
Whatacountry.com lists M1 and M2 stocks and handguards. Other parts as well. There are still lots of sources out there for original as well as repro parts. Let's face it, back then America could make things and we made millions of carbines. Handy little weapon.
What is up with the US Property stamp??? The stamp looked legit, not a home job...
The US property stamp is legit. Savage made a bunch of these for Britain under the Lend/Lease program before we were officially in the war.
