Omaha Beach video on a budget

Sometimes I feel sorry for the Veterans who served in the Pacific. One has to remember the Pacific was America's priority. Omaha was indeed bloody but so was Tarawa Island. In three days of fighting the Marines lost over 1,100 lives ! The losses were so heavy the Homefront was horrified. The...

    California Wines

Unfortunately we at TJs only carry Columbia Crest Cabs and Merlots. I would like to try others. Merlots have softer tannins which is my preference. On the other hand I like a BIG Shiraz from Australia.

    California Wines

Washington does have some of the best Reislings and Gewurtztraminers around. Washington is almost on the same latitude as Germany. Also a little trivia on German Wines green Bottles come from the Mosel and Brown bottles from the Rhine.

    California Wines

I work for Trader Joes (20 yrs total) so I've dabbled in Wines. There are many variables to wine. California wines are indeed World famous in fact we rival France. Some believe we are better ! We are fortunate to taste some of our products. But again there are many types Cabernet, Merlot, Shiraz...

    Any Cigar Afficionados Out There?

La Glorias, CAO, La Perla and Mursuli are my choices. I've had some problems with an uneven ash. I figured out that I wasn't rotating my cigars. My cheapie humidor was not humidifying the cigars evenly. I started out smoking Swisher Sweets as a teenager. We used to go to Disneyland and get...

    Pipes

It still seems strange to me younger men smoking pipes. There are quite a few photos of GIs in WWII smoking them. All of them under 24-25 they seem alot more mature. What is a reaction when a young man smokes a pipe now a days ? I feel Men have lost their sophistication now. Men don't grease...

    Bad Vintage Movies

A good site for Campy movies and some old Stag Flicks is www.somethingwierd.com. Be advised it not something the ladies would appreciate ! They have alot of old "Scare" flicks and WWII instructional films as well. They aren't the fastest Company because they burn each DVD you order.

Do You Still Use "Golden Age" Products?

Nice Photos, thanks. I grew up in Garden Grove and I remember some of the small town feel we once had. There were small Mom and Pop shops that still survived until the early 60s. They are all gone save one called Zlakets Mkt on the old Main St.

    WWII Films

I found myself buying the old BW War movies. I started buying them out of nostalgia All of us guys who are 40+ remembers watching them on Sat afternoons. Though some are as corny as hell they yield some things contemporary movies don't. I find myself studying the attitudes, domestic lifestyles...

What was the last TV show you watched?

Before my son quit his job at DVD Planet I went and bought seasons 4-5 of Magnum PI. I had the first season and wanted 2 and 3 but they were sold out during the X-mas rush. Most people now a days dislike this show but it was a favorite of all my friends. Most of who are now Law Enforcement ...

    WWII Films

Try the "War Lover" with Steve McQueen but don't watch it if you hate B-17s ! I saw this flick as a kid and bought it on DVD. Good flying sequences and a decent plot. Its a typical Steve McQueen psycho flick. "Hell is for Heros" is another one Steve is in that one also.

    Wartime cartoons

If I recall I remember Matt Groening being upset that Bart Simpson was appearing on some of the "Tracks" in the first Gulf War. I wonder if he would have given his blessing 60 years ago.

    Wartime cartoons

The problems with some Wartime cartoons is they are too racist. The 1930- 1940s were not too socially sensitive here in the US. I've had friends tell me of going to Cartoon Collector Shows and seeing anti-Japanese caricatures. One will ocassionally see Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck dumping on...

    WWII Paratrooper Group Photo

WW II Paratrooper Group Photo Mike sorry if I offended you, that is the reason why I eventually was kicked out of my group. I refused to march in a parade with a uniform I did not earn. It was one thing to go in the backwoods where nobody sees you than to strut around in jump wings I did not...

    WWII Paratrooper Group Photo

I know this is a way old thread but I can't let you 101 and Brit airborne get all the re-enacting glory ! I started back in the mid 80s when you couldn't find a decent Jump Suit ! In fact this prompted Juan Gonzales to make them for our group the CHG. Now look ! We were in the 82nd, 505th (now...

TCM Star of the Month: Rita Hayworth

TCM Star of the month:Rita Hayworth I have always seen her "Stills" but never knowingly seen her movies. I finally had a chance to see her as Dagwoods ex-girl friend in the "Blondie" series. Wow what a Dish ! This is before Actresses were cosmetically enhanced . Penny Singleton also gave...

    Colonal Hogan's A-2

colonal hogans jacket The reason the jackets would appear Dark is probably a matter of contrast. All my friends laugh at me because I like BW movies. I have to remind them BW movies deal with light and dark not color to contrast. I heard they used to use chocolate syrup for blood in BW...

Cooper questions With all that is being said about Cooper, how accurrate a repro are they ? I bought one about 3 years ago only because a guy I know who owns WW2 Impressions bought one. I figure if he did there is a reason since research is a big part of his business. I believe he said they...
