    WWII Reenacting Discussion Thread

As long as a reenactor can seperate fact from fiction and truly seeks to teach history to willing hearers, I can appreciate his/her efforts.

Were Servicepeople Allowed to Keep It?

Besides uniform parts, my father-in-law even kept old wool blankets that were used for everything from picnics to drop cloths for painting.

    Ever "Ike" a dress jacket?

Thanks you very much,B24J , for the outstanding pics. Your Dad was surely of the Greatest Generation. Keep those uniform items. I have been fortunate to have inherited my late father in-law's uniforms also(an engineer assigned to the AAF). Two issue Ike's and two full length. Assorted head...

Does anyone know the A2 by Mil-Tec?

The ad states that it is sold out. Might not be restocked, since Sportsmens sometimes only buys lot shipments, and when they are gone, no more are to be seen.

The DIY Vintage Repair Before/After Thread

Miss G, here in the USA there is a wood refinishing kit called Homer Formsby that would provide all you need to restore those pieces. Perhaps Ireland has something similar. A kit would give you the step by step directions to produce a fine piece of furniture.

    Replacing a 1968 pattern MA1 knits

I have had the same experience with cuff replacement as has Atticus. After trying it once, I found that it is well worth the price to have a seamstress do it right the first time.

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

One of my favorite hotels in Wellsboro, PA(which was built in the 1800's) still has the razor slots next to the bathroom cabinets. I find it nostalgic.

Why the huge disparity between Soviet and German losses on the Eastern front?

Some really fascinating exchange of knowledge and/or ideas here. One can learn a lot about WW2 by reading such information. Sadly, human nature never seems to evolve into a peace loving attitude, above all else.
