    Vintage Concealed Weapons

From my experience and reading and such I have to vote for horizontal being the new kid on the block in shoulder rigs. There are even Old West vertical rigs using a cup for the muzzle and a spring clip on the cylinder that date before the turn of the century. McQueen's upside-down holster...

    Vintage Concealed Weapons

Many police agencies don't like shoulder rigs due to retention concerns and, with the horizontal models, that the muzzle can sweep others ont eh draw. I think that's driven more by perception of a problem and visions of liability dancing in heads than a real problem. Bianchi's X-15 holster...

    Vintage Concealed Weapons

A reminder for folks new to Lounge gun threads. We can talk about the arms, equipment and related activities here but not the politics (or details on terminal effects). Politics, and firearm's politics in particular, is one of those hot-button issues that can easily raise hackles and...

    What Are You Reading

"Dragon Days" by H. John Poole, author of "The Last Hundred Yards". Just finished his "The Tiger's Way" and "Tequila Junction". All contain modernized (and much more effective than current doctrine) individual and small unit tactics. Also they take a 4th Gen warfare perspective look at the...

I believe, from the context, that would be "satire" on the kinds of ads used in older novels and stories about expeditions.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

On "Australia", regardless of how it was advertised, remember it is first and foremost a Baz Luhrman film. It needs to be viewed through that lens, almost as a 4th film in his "Red Curtain Trilogy" of "Strictly Ballroom", "Romeo + Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge". Much of what is criticized...

Good news for those who realize that "leaving civilization behind" doesn't mean that civilization (the worst parts anyway) will leave you alone. Michael Bane's "Trail Safe: How to Avoid Danger in the Backcountry" is back in print. http://www.flyingdragonltd.us/trail-safe.htm link...

    Show us your Guns!

Not a fan of their handguns but I've heard nothing but good things about the Hi-Point carbines. Gives a modern take on the cowboys' lever rifle and pistol in the same caliber. Not quite as pretty as a Winchester and a Colt in .32-20 though. :)

    What Are You Reading

If you haven't read it you'd almost certainly enjoy "The Abolition of Man". It contains the essay "Men Without Chests" which you may be familiar with.

One thing I enjoyed about the Stumps was the small, but real, issue of walking up on missed unexploded munitions. Made staying alert on point a little less theoretical.
