Biker jackets aren't really something I know a great deal about, so just wondered if the 'A' zips might give a clue. I'm sure, as you say, there were probably tons of companies making Perfecto-ulike style jackets in the 50s/60s (and still are). It's not my jacket, but I'm wondering if it's worth...
Hi guys,
Does anyone have any idea of who might have made this jacket? It looks like it's based on a Perfecto, but I don't think it's a Schott. The main zip is missing its puller, but the pocket zips are marked 'A'.
Regards,
Jon
Hi Guys,
Happy Festive Season to one and all!
I’ll only be making a very small number of jackets next year, so if you are interested in placing an order please let me know. I’ll probably be making only four or five jackets, so once my order book is full, that will be it for 2017. It will use...
Hi guys,
Last year was a very busy year for me, with jacket making being my main focus, and occupying most of my time. I have been amazed at how things have developed since my first steps into jacket making. It has been great to interact with customers, and provide them with jackets which they...
I'm wondering if this might be a nice jacket to make a repro of. Or is it too simple? Having worn it a lot since I got it, it's become a firm favourite.
I might make a pattern of it and see how it turns out!
Cheers,
Jon
Hi guys,
Here are a few photos of a jacket that I picked up recently (for £18!) - sorry, they're not great photos, but hopefully they're clear enough.
I like the simplicity of the design, and it fits like a glove. I found a bit of info online about Mid-Western, and it looks like they tend...
Thanks for the kind comments guys!
There's often a lot of discussion regarding the 'typical' sheepskin used on original Irvins, and how accurate various reproductions are. As there was such a variety of different sheepskin used, I thought it might be useful to post a few photos of several...
Thanks Smithy - that's very kind of you! I should think Norway is the ideal place to be wearing an Irvin! In fact, my avatar photo is from a May 1940 article in 'Match' magazine about the RAF in Norway!
Big J - the wait time at the moment is around 5 - 6 months. I had to put jacket making to...
Looking good Søren! Great to see how your jacket is breaking in. I'm still wearing my first test jacket, which is very broken in now! I keep meaning to make myself a new one (as the first test jacket has lots of stitching errors), but I haven't got round to it yet!
Thor - I use zips which are...
Hi guys,
I was rooting around in the top of our barn this morning, and found this leather jacket hung up behind several old overcoats. It looks like it's been there a very long time. I think a fair few generations of mice have been living in it, and who knows what else.
Style-wise it...
Just looked at the Wested website, and the model that I ordered doesn't seem to be offered anymore. I ordered a 'ROLA' jacket, which used to be in their 'custom made' section. It was a standard jacket though, with the only 'custom' request being the non side-entry pockets. I'm not 100% sure how...
Hi guys,
Metatron - great photo from "Only Angels Have Wings'!
I requested that the pockets weren't side-enty, so just open at the top like on an A-2 jacket. On photos I'd seen of other 'Indy' type jackets, I didn't like the way the handwarmer pockets seem to sag, and alter the look of the...
Thanks Bruce.
The leather is 'copper novapelle'. It's nice, and doesn't look overly 'pre-distressed', especially now that it's broken in a bit.
Cheers,
Jon
Hi guys,
As well as making jackets, I recently bought one! Not vintage, and not military. I finally succumbed and bought an 'Indy' jacket. As much as I love the films, I bought the jacket from a practical point of view. I love wearing my 1950s Cagleco G-1, but sometimes the waistband makes it...
Hi Guys,
I've just finished making this size 44-46 jacket for a customer, but he's just informed me that, due to unforeseen circumstances, he needs to save money and will need to sell the jacket straight away! He's planning on listing it on ebay, but I suggested that it may be worth asking...
Hi guys,
I have a new batch of sheepskins arriving very soon, so will be working on the next jacket orders later this month and throughout January. The skins weren't due to arrive until early January, so it's nice not to be waiting for materials for a change!
I'm really pleased with how...
I think two of the images (the ones with the orange/brown background) are from the Belstaff website. Not sure where the detail shot is from, with the fairly shiny leather. The jacket looks quite nice in this shot, but I bet it's not one that they've made!
I've been thinking of buying an Indy...
Andrew, I must say I was surprised by your announcement, and specifically its timing.
As you will know from reading my posts, I've been working on my repro Irvin jackets for three years. In that time I have sourced the correct industrial sewing machines and become skilled in their use. Using...
